Process Improvement Analyst
Darlington (hybrid working) 2 days per week in the Darlington office, with flexibility depending on business needs and stakeholder engagement.
About The Role
At Railpen, we take a long-term view, protecting the future of the railways’ pension schemes through thoughtful decisions made today. We’re looking for a Process Improvement Analyst to help us analyse, redesign and improve the processes that support our members and colleagues.
Working within our Process Engineering team, you’ll support an important transformation project focused on preparing our services for future demand. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Member Services and the wider organisation to understand current ways of working, identify pain points and risks, and turn complex requirements into practical, scalable improvements.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Analysing end-to-end business processes to identify inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for improvement
- Mapping current and future-state processes, including As-Is and To-Be models
- Facilitating workshops and gathering requirements from stakeholders and subject matter experts
- Translating business needs into clear requirements, process documentation and practical recommendations
- Assessing how proposed changes could affect operations, systems, data, customers and other teams
- Using quantitative and qualitative insight to build measurable benefit cases for change
- Supporting the design and delivery of solutions that improve efficiency, compliance and member outcomes
- Producing clear documentation, including process maps, functional specifications, standard operating procedures and supporting materials
- Working collaboratively across teams to communicate change and support successful implementation

These responsibilities reflect the role’s focus on process analysis, requirements engineering, impact assessment, benefits realisation and clear process documentation.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll bring hands-on experience of analysing and improving complex business processes. You’ll be comfortable working with stakeholders to understand challenges, explore requirements and design improvements that are practical, measurable and aligned with wider organisational goals.
Essential
- Experience analysing, redesigning and improving end-to-end business processes
- Hands-on experience creating current and future-state process maps, including As-Is and To-Be models
- Experience gathering, documenting and validating business requirements
- Confidence facilitating workshops and engaging with stakeholders at different levels
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn information and insight into clear recommendations
- Experience supporting process improvement, business change or transformation initiatives
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly
- The confidence to challenge constructively, influence decisions and build effective working relationships
- Experience producing clear process documentation and stakeholder-focused recommendations
Desirable
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience using process mapping or process modelling tools
- Experience working in a complex operational, customer-focused or regulated environment
- Experience within pensions or financial services
Pensions or financial services experience was positioned as advantageous rather than essential in the previous advert, allowing the role to remain accessible to candidates with strong transferable process improvement expertise.
