I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
You’re someone who enjoys being part of a hands-on environment where things are being made, processed and produced. You’re reliable, organised and take pride in doing things properly, with a strong focus on safety and attention to detail.
You’re naturally curious and enjoy solving problems. You’re comfortable looking at information and process data, asking questions and investigating why something might not be working as expected. You’ll also have good basic IT skills and be confident using computers to enter information, work with data and learn new software and systems.
You’ll already have around one year of experience working in an industrial environment, such as a factory, manufacturing or production setting. You don’t need previous experience in heat treatment, but you should be comfortable working in this type of environment and keen to learn, develop your technical knowledge and build your skills within manufacturing.
