Job Title: Process Safety Advisor - Submarines

Working Pattern: Full time (Days)

Working Location: Derby (5 days onsite)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Process Safety Advisor to work within our HSE Function in Derby.

As a Process Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of Process Safety arrangements to manage RRSL's high-consequence hazards and ensure key statutory and regulatory requirements are met. You will undertake HS&E assurance and improvements in support of RRSL’s priorities, providing process safety advice, assurance, tools, and improvements while proactively identifying emerging issues.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide specialist process safety advice and support across operations, projects, and engineering.
  • Maintain and improve the process safety management system.
  • Play a key role in our risk management process and embedding of robust controls.
  • Support HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments, What-If, and other process hazard studies.
  • Support COMAH / major accident hazard management where applicable.
  • Development & support of Bow-tie diagrams for key high consequence hazard processors and assurance of controls.
  • Support risk management processes, safety cases, safety management systems, and process safety documentation.
  • Provide assurance that Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), critical controls, and safety-critical elements are appropriately identified, managed, and maintained.
  • Support Management of Change (MoC) and ensure process safety implications are properly assessed.
  • Investigate process safety incidents, near misses, and loss-of-containment events, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Develop and monitor process safety performance indicators (PSIs) and provide meaningful reporting to management.
  • Conduct process safety audits, inspections, and assurance activities.
  • Support emergency preparedness and major accident prevention arrangements.
  • Provide coaching and training to operational, engineering, and maintenance teams.
  • Keep abreast of relevant legislation, standards, guidance, and industry good practice.
  • Promote a strong HS&E and Process Safety culture, leading improvements, and supporting effective governance in partnership with management and the wider HS&E function.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Relevant HSE and/or Process Safety professional qualifications, with NEBOSH Process Safety and/or General NEBOSH highly desirable.
  • Experience in writing, developing, implementing, and assuring management arrangements to effectively manage risk.
  • Strong experience of risk management, including the assessment and management of high-consequence hazards.
  • Experience providing HSE/Process Safety advice and delivering risk-based solutions within a complex or highly regulated environment.
  • Experience working with and applying COMAH Regulations, alongside practical experience using HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, or similar Process Safety methodologies.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered membership of IOSH / ISEP.
  • Ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
