Summary of the Process Safety Manager role
As the Process Safety Manager, you will provide technical leadership across plant and process safety, helping to ensure high standards of safety, compliance and risk assessment across the site. You will act as the key point of expertise for process safety, working collaboratively across the business to embed effective practices and support the safe operation and development of the site.
This is a site-based role, based at our site in Cramlington, Northumberland and will be working a day-shift pattern, Monday to Friday.
Your Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) system, and Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP)
- Manage compliance with COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX and other relevant process safety requirements
- Coordinate major accident hazard studies and risk assessments, including HAZ studies, LOPA and QRA, ensuring risks are evaluated against ALARP principles
- Review process and engineering changes, providing specialist safety input into new projects, plant modifications and equipment
- Monitor process safety performance through audits, inspections, incident investigations and performance indicators, identifying driving improvements
- Support emergency response planning and regulatory requirements, including relevant permits, consents and COMAH documentation
- Provide specialist advice, training and guidance across the site, working with Engineering, EHS, external specialists and regulatory authorities where required

Requirements For The Role
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline e.g. chemical / process engineering (chartered membership of a relevant institution desirable).
- Safety qualification desirable, e.g. NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma.
- Process Safety qualification desirable, e.g. MSc in Process Safety / Process Safety NEBOSH Certificate.
- Demonstratable experience in a manufacturing/production environment, ideally with several years’ experience in technical, chemical manufacturing or engineering roles.
- Sound knowledge of major accident hazards legislation such as CoMAH, with the ability to do, manage and lead on specific technical aspects of process safety.
- Training in relevant specialist process safety topics desirable: e.g. SIS, Human Factors, Safety Critical Tasks, Hazardous Area Classification, Process Hazard Studies and Analysis, Quantified Risk Assessment / ALARP, etc.
- Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and influence at all levels, and to identify practical and proportionate solutions to challenging or complex issues.
- Broad based management skills and the ability to operate with minimum supervision.
