NHS Property Services
At NHS Property Services, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to creating a workplace where colleagues feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. Our People Strategy Get, Grow, and Keep Great People reflects our ambition to build a culture driven by purpose, collaboration, and impact.
We’re now looking for a proactive, detail‑driven Procurement Category Specialist to join our Capital & Advisory procurement team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring public money is spent effectively, driving value across the NHS estate, and supporting the delivery of high‑quality services for our customers.
Who You Are
You’re an organised, analytical procurement professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. You’re confident managing multiple projects at once, building strong relationships with stakeholders, and navigating public procurement regulations with ease. Your structured, solutions‑focused approach helps you spot opportunities, deliver savings, and support continuous improvement across the category.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver end-to-end procurement projects across capital works, construction, consultancy, and professional services, ensuring compliance with public procurement legislation and organisational governance requirements.
- Manage multiple concurrent procurement activities, delivering high-quality outcomes within often challenging project and programme timescales.
- Provide commercial and procurement advice to stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from business case development and procurement strategy through to contract award.
- Develop and manage tender and contract documentation, lead evaluations, and support negotiations to secure value-for-money outcomes and manage commercial risk.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and delivery partners, acting as a trusted advisor and promoting procurement best practice.
- Analyse spend, supplier performance, and market intelligence to identify opportunities for savings, innovation, standardisation, and continuous improvement.
- Support the successful delivery of capital investment programmes by aligning procurement activity with project objectives, funding requirements, and delivery milestones.
- Contribute to procurement excellence through knowledge sharing, continuous improvement initiatives, and the application of strategic sourcing and contract management best practice.
- Support the development of business cases by providing commercial insight, market intelligence, procurement options, and value-for-money assessments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
