About the Role

The Housing Management Service has recently been reviewed and as a forward thinking organisation, we are eager to adapt to the changes in the way our residents want to access our housing services.

Housing is a critical priority for us at Hackney. Ensuring the very highest standards of housing management across our 30,000 council homes is paramount. As a Council with a strong track record of improvement, the return of our ALMO some twenty months ago provided us with the opportunity to set a new vision, purpose and pace for Housing

Procurement Coordinator

The Procurement Coordinator is a key role within the Property and Asset Management team responsible for supporting multi-million pound procurement projects from inception to completion. You will be covering the whole of Property services, including Property and Asset Management, Building Maintenance and Building Safety.

As a Procurement Coordinator, you will provide critical support to the Procurement Category Manager and officers in managing a comprehensive pipeline of procurement activities. Your primary focus will be ensuring that all contracts are executed on schedule while strictly adhering to internal governance protocols and the Procurement Act 2023. While prior experience within the property, housing, or construction sectors is advantageous, familiarity with the Building Regulations 2010 and the Building Safety Act 2022 is highly desirable for this position.

Working in liaison with the Procurement Category Manager and Procurement officers, support is provided through:

  • The provision of advice on the Council’s procurement processes and best practice
  • Project management of the procurement work-stream
  • Sourcing providers for various requirements
  • Co-ordination of procurement activities and procurement reporting

Key Accountabilities

  • To organise and deliver all work on time and to the agreed quality standards.
  • To ensure all work undertaken is compliant with Council policies and practice, and statutory requirements.
  • To consistently apply the Council’s Human Resource Standards and Equality Standards. To promote equality of opportunity and collaborative working as appropriate across the Council.
  • To have an awareness of the role of procurement within the Council’s organisational context, and a commitment to the Council’s organisational values and beliefs.
  • To communicate in a clear, confident and authoritative manner…
  • To assess own priorities on a day-to-day basis and set objectives and deadlines to meet those priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
