Procurement Compliance, Governance & Assurance Lead
Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire & Swindon
£53,073 plus benefits | 18 month fixed-term contract | Devizes, with agile working
Ever wanted to be the person who makes the numbers stand up in court? Now you can be. Every pound Wiltshire Police spends goes into keeping communities safe: the vehicles on the road, the tech in officers' hands, the services that support victims. Behind each of those decisions there needs to be someone who can say with confidence: this was fair, this was lawful, this was the best value we could get.
That person could be you.
We're looking for a Procurement Compliance, Governance & Assurance Lead: part detective, part data analyst, part trusted adviser. You'll protect procurement integrity at a time when the whole public sector is reshaping how it buys under the Procurement Act 2023. It's a rare chance to help build a modern procurement function from the ground up and leave your mark on it.
Why this role is a bit special
- You'll shape something new. Working directly with the Head of Procurement, you'll help design a governance framework that's modern, resilient and customer-focused. You won't just be following an old rulebook.
- You'll turn data into decisions. Spend analysis, cost models, whole-life costing, benchmarking, dashboards. If you like being the first to spot a pattern in a spreadsheet, you'll love this.
- You'll be the voice of fairness. You'll guide evaluators, strengthen how bids are scored and make sure every contract award is objective, consistent and defensible.
- Your work has a purpose you can see. Better commercial decisions mean more value going to frontline policing and the communities of Wiltshire and Swindon.
- You'll grow your career. With 8 hours of protected learning time every month and support for CIPS, this is a genuine step up for an ambitious procurement professional.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
