The Role
The Ward Support Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care by maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised ward environment. Working as an integral member of the ward team, the post holder provides a range of non-clinical support services including stock management, environmental cleanliness, catering coordination, supplies management, equipment monitoring, and general maintenance reporting. The role involves close collaboration with the Senior Charge Nurse, ward staff, support services, procurement teams, National Distribution Centre, pharmacy, catering, portering services, and external suppliers to ensure national and local standards are consistently achieved.

- Location: Glasgow Royal Infirmary, 84 Castle Street, Glasgow, G4 0SF
- Working Pattern: 36 Hours (Monday to Friday - Day Shift)
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operation of the ward by ensuring stock levels, consumables, equipment, catering supplies, and non-clinical services are maintained to meet patient and service needs.
- Manage and monitor stock and non-stock items, undertake stock rotation and quality checks, source alternative products during shortages, support annual audits, resolve invoice queries, and liaise with procurement, pharmacy, clinical teams, and suppliers.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness within ward and communal areas, monitor kitchen facilities and catering provisions, coordinate specialist dietary requirements, and ensure storage areas remain organised and compliant.
- Monitor equipment, report faults, coordinate repairs, manage delivery and returns processes, support blood collection and phlebotomy supplies, plan stock requirements during peak periods, and contribute to service improvements.
- Regular communication with patients, visitors, relatives, and multidisciplinary colleagues while maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality, and a safe ward environment at all times.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
- Experience of working within a healthcare, ward, supplies, stores, facilities, or support services environment.
- Knowledge of stock control, inventory management, stock rotation, and ordering processes.
- Understanding of cleanliness, infection prevention, and environmental standards within healthcare settings.
- Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and support audit processes.
- Experience of working with procurement, supply chain, or ordering systems is desirable.
- Awareness of health and safety requirements relating to equipment, storage, and manual handling.
- Basic IT skills, including the use of electronic ordering and inventory systems.
- Commitment to delivering high standards of customer service to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Willingness to undertake all mandatory NHS training relevant to the role.
- Understanding of confidentiality, dignity, and person-centred care principles.
