Got an eye for a deal and a knack for driving real value across complex operations?
National Express Bus is looking for a Procurement Manager to lead end to end category strategies spanning direct fleet spend and essential corporate overheads.
In this role, you will be the driving force behind our commercial resilience.
- From negotiating competitive tenders and standardising contracts to working directly with operational teams and managing supplier performance, you will ensure we get maximum value while keeping commercial risk low.
What you will actually be doing
- Own Category Strategies: Develop and deliver procurement strategies across direct fleet needs and indirect areas like IT, Facilities Management, Marketing, Professional Services, and HR.
- Lead Tenders & Sourcing: Run competitive sourcing exercises, lead contract negotiations, and build strong supplier relationships that deliver true value for money.
- Protect the Business: Standardise NDAs, SLAs, and Master Service Agreements to keep us protected legally and commercially while aligning spend with ESG targets and UK regulations.
- Drive Supplier Performance: Track spend versus supplier performance across central functions and garages, holding regular KPI reviews to keep standards high.
- Monitor the Market: Keep your finger on the pulse of market conditions, benchmark pricing, track supply chain risks, and explore new supplier innovations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
