Drive smarter supply chains that protect what matters most
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Procurement Specialist at our HMNB Clyde Faslane site.
Babcock is a trusted partner to governments and organisations across defence, aerospace and engineering. Our people are at the heart of everything we do — delivering complex programmes, enabling national security and supporting critical infrastructure that society relies on every day.
The role
As a Procurement Specialist, you’ll play a vital role supporting high-value infrastructure and engineering projects at HMNB Clyde. You’ll ensure the right goods and services are secured at the right time, cost and quality — all while maintaining compliance, managing risk and driving value for money.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a complex, high-impact environment where your expertise directly influences operational success and long-term capability. You’ll partner closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, contribute to continuous improvement, and develop your commercial skills across regulated defence procurement.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Supporting procurement activity for projects and requirements valued over £10,000, from requisition through to purchase order
- Managing supplier relationships, performance, and order books, resolving aged debt and delivery issues
- Delivering competitive tendering activities, including evaluation, scoring, negotiation and contract award
- Driving cost savings, risk mitigation and value through data analysis, due diligence and continual improvement
- Ensuring full compliance with supply chain governance, policy, contract terms and security requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
