We Are Looking for a Procurement/Stores Operative
We are looking for a reliable, organised, and proactive Procurement/Stores Operative to join our growing engineering team.
This is a varied role combining traditional stores responsibilities with procurement and purchasing support. You will play a key role in ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are received, stored, ordered, and distributed efficiently to support operational requirements.
Working closely with engineers, project teams, suppliers, and the Procurement function, you will help maintain stock levels, coordinate deliveries and collections, and ensure the right materials are available at the right time.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a practical, hands-on position while also developing procurement and administrative skills.

- Receive, inspect, and book in deliveries.
- Pick, issue, and distribute materials, tools, and equipment to employees and projects.
- Maintain an organised, safe, and efficient stores environment.
- Carry out regular stock checks and assist with inventory management.
- Monitor stock levels and identify items requiring replenishment.
- Manage supplier consignment stock, including on-site vending systems.
- Load and unload deliveries where required.
- Ensure all goods received are accompanied by the correct delivery documentation and certification.
- Maintain accurate stock records using the Company’s internal system.
Procurement Support
- Obtain quotations from suppliers for goods and services.
- Raise purchase orders using the Company’s internal system.
- Obtain supplier acknowledgements for purchase orders.
- Expedite outstanding purchase orders and communicate delivery updates to relevant departments.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding deliveries, shortages, and product availability.
- Assist with sourcing new suppliers and obtaining competitive pricing.
- Support supplier due diligence and maintain supplier records.
- Assist with goods receipting and invoice queries alongside the Accounts department.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with Company policies and ethical purchasing standards.
General Duties
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, workshop personnel, and office teams to ensure materials are available when required.
- Coordinate and communicate delivery schedules and material availability.
- Carry out occasional collections and deliveries of materials, parts, and equipment using a Company vehicle.
- Build positive working relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of housekeeping, health, and safety, and quality.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the business.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Experience working in an engineering industry.
- Previous experience within a stores, warehouse, logistics, or engineering environment. Experience of stock control and inventory management.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using an ERP/MRP system (desirable).
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload.
- A willingness to support procurement and purchasing activities.
- A full UK driving licence, as occasional travel to suppliers and customer sites will be required.
- A forklift truck licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
