We’re looking for an experienced Producer to join the Hijinx team, helping us develop and deliver ambitious, inclusive theatre and creative projects across Wales, the UK and beyond.

Contract: Permanent (6 months’ probation)

Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week)

Base: Cardiff (with local, national and international travel as the role requires)

Starting salary: £31,000 per annum

Holiday: 30 days per year + statutory bank holidays

Deadline: 06 Sept 2026 (midnight)

  • Work alongside the Associate Director as producer on all Hijinx’s creative engagement activity, including young people’s theatre, adult community groups and our inclusive band.
  • Support the creative team from early ideas through to delivery, supporting artists and teams to make their best work.
  • Support the development and touring of Hijinx’s professional theatre work, building relationships with venues, festivals and partners.
  • Help identify new opportunities for Hijinx’s work to reach audiences nationally and internationally.

  • Line manage the Assistant Producer, helping them grow their skills and confidence.

You’ll work closely with the Executive Producer, Artistic Director/Co-CEO, Associate Director and wider Hijinx team. You’ll also collaborate with a brilliant network of artists, freelancers, participants and partners who make our work possible.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You don’t need to have followed a traditional producing path, but you do need to bring experience of producing creative work and managing complex projects. We are looking for someone who can confidently lead projects, build relationships and support artists/teams to deliver ambitious work. You’ll be:

  • Someone who believes in the creative potential of everyone and is passionate about inclusive theatre.
  • A thoughtful producer who enjoys bringing structure, care and imagination to creative projects.
  • A confident relationship-builder who enjoys working with artists, communities, audiences, venues, funders and partners.
  • Curious about new opportunities and excited by sharing Hijinx’s work with new audiences.
  • Organised, adaptable and comfortable balancing creative ambition with practical delivery.
  • Someone who understands that access and artistry go hand in hand.

You will need demonstrable experience of producing theatre, touring, festivals, participatory arts or community-led work, alongside experience of managing budgets, schedules, relationships and creative processes. We welcome applications from people with different career journeys and backgrounds, and we recognise that valuable producing experience can be gained in many different contexts.

This is a Cardiff-based role, with hybrid working available and regular travel across Wales and the UK, with occasional international travel. It is a permanent role (following a six-month probation), with flexible hours and TOIL offered.
