What do we need?
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Business Analyst to join the Dotmatics Luma team.
Luma is a next-generation scientific platform that unifies science data and data science within a highly functional, multi-tenant SaaS platform, bringing together best-in-class capabilities in data modelling, ingestion, translation, discovery, insight, and action.
Working within an Agile delivery framework, you'll act as the bridge between Product and Engineering, partnering closely with Product Managers, Developers, QA, UX, and subject matter experts to translate business requirements into clear, actionable user stories that enable engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding complex problems, thinking critically about requirements, and working collaboratively to deliver value through well-defined product increments.
In this role you will:
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, QA, UX Designers, Scientists, and other stakeholders to understand business objectives and product requirements.
- Gather, analyse, challenge, and document business and user requirements, ensuring they are clear, complete, and ready for development.
- Translate Epics into detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and supporting analysis documentation within Jira and Confluence.
- Refine and maintain the product backlog, working closely with Product Managers to prioritise work and prepare stories for delivery.
- Analyse business processes and user workflows to identify opportunities for product improvements.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and QA throughout delivery, ensuring requirements are understood and questions are resolved promptly.
- Work across multiple Agile teams to ensure consistency of requirements and successful delivery.
- Help identify and mitigate delivery risks, managing stakeholder expectations throughout the development lifecycle.
- Perform and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring delivered functionality meets business needs.
- Use product analytics and customer feedback to help identify future product improvements.
- Contribute to wireframes, user flows, and lightweight prototypes where appropriate to communicate product requirements more effectively.
- Support wider product initiatives through customer discussions, technology research, and cross-functional collaboration where required.
We are looking for people who:
- 5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst or similar role within a SaaS software environment.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Strong experience gathering, analysing, documenting, and refining business requirements.
- Proven experience translating business needs into Epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the confidence to challenge assumptions and think independently.
- Experience using Jira and Confluence (or similar Agile tooling).
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business, or a related discipline is beneficial but not essential. Experience within scientific software or Life Sciences would be advantageous but is not required.

- Strong Business Analysis experience within B2B Enterprise SaaS products.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
- Requirements elicitation, process analysis, and user journey mapping.
- Writing high-quality user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional documentation.
- Backlog refinement, prioritisation, and working closely with Product Managers.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across Product, Engineering, QA, UX, and business teams.
- Experience analysing business processes and translating complex requirements into deliverable work.
- Quality Analysis and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Confidence working independently, asking the right questions, and driving ambiguous requirements through to clear outcomes.
Nice to have:
- Exposure to scientific software, scientific data platforms, analytics applications, or large-scale data products.
- Experience working with ELNs, LIMS, scientific instrument data, or Life Sciences software.
- Experience building wireframes or lightweight prototypes using Figma or similar tools.
- Experience working alongside Product Managers on product discovery and roadmap planning.
- Exposure to AI-powered products or an interest in applying AI tools within day-to-day work.
- Familiarity with Databricks, BI tools (Power BI, Sigma, Spotfire), or modern data platforms.
- Experience working with model-driven or multi-tenant SaaS applications.
