MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- J.D., LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent experience
- 7 years of attorney-level experience in-house, at a law form, or in government
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of key legal and business challenges AI providers face and how to build models accordingly
- Ability to view the opportunities and risks of AI models and systems
- Track record of excellent legal contributions to AI model development as in-house legal counsel at a technology company
- Admitted to the bar or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., registered in-house counsel) in the state in which the position is located, and in good standing

US: $316000 - $351000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits
US: $344000 - $382000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be the go-to counsel for DeepMind Research and Engineering teams developing and aligning Gemini and related model families. Monitor and interpret emerging laws, regulations, and commitments impacting Gemini’s development and release.
- Establish practical governance frameworks for Gemini model development, spanning training, alignment, evaluations, new capabilities, research, and data.
- Advise technical teams and senior management by translating commitments and mitigations into actionable, technical requirements for implementation across systems.
- Advise senior management on AI research risks and existing governance, developing creative options to mitigate or eliminate risks at scale.
- Collaborate with and advise cross-functional DeepMind and Google groups—including Research, Engineering, Product Management, Security, Privacy, Responsibility, Compliance, and Legal—to adapt governance frameworks for forthcoming regulatory changes across model lifecycles.
