Responsibilities

Team Introduction

Our global product legal team provides key support for all of TikTok’s innovative initiatives, state-of-the-art products, and integrated platforms servicing our global video market. We help our technological and business teams enable their vision and ensure product agility by providing integrated legal guidance and support.

We are looking for a product attorney to work closely with senior counsel in the global product legal team and internal stakeholders to conduct solid analysis, provide pragmatic and strategic advice. This position provides candidates with a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team, work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, collaborate with colleagues in business, engineering, compliance, security, and policy teams on issues critical to protecting TikTok's efforts on products and innovations.

Candidates must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, strategically thinking, intellectually curious, and exercise independent judgement.

Responsibilities

  • Leading legal review of new products and features by TikTok's search and user growth product teams
  • Conducting legal research and participating in coordinating product-related matters on a global scale based on a holistic risk assessment
  • Assisting senior product counsel with providing advice to search and user growth product teams on strategic matters, facilitating the development of creative solutions for product feature innovation, including development of product launch plans in various jurisdictions
  • Participation in coordinating with various subject matter expert legal counsels to consolidate and stress-test legal feedback for the product teams
  • Managing internal communication, projects, and training initiatives among different teams, including regional legal, various product organizations, and various subject matter expert legal groups as a member of project team under supervision of senior product counsel
  • Monitoring industry trends related to the regulation of online platforms, social media, and entertainment platforms, as well as privacy, generative AI, data protection, and minor safety & protection across markets to identify critical areas for the company to address.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with a strong academic background and legal qualifications in the UK and/or Europe
  • Experience of advising on product launches, ideally for a multinational company, advising across multiple markets, and taking into account laws across regions
  • Strong drafting, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on many different projects at once in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with analyzing products to determine their compliance with applicable laws
  • Detail oriented and experience coordinating across multiple teams/countries
  • Strong sense of problem solving and proactive work ethic
  • Determination to face tough challenges in a fast-paced environment while keeping a sense of humor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally some regulatory experience with online platforms in the EU and globally
  • Ideally some experience counseling on search service, platform liability, intellectual property, and generative AI
  • Ideally some in-house experience in an international matrixed organization
