What to Expect
The Product Data Engineer is responsible for Programme BoM Management, assisting with BoM creation, maintenance, validation, configuration control, and issue resolution to ensure quality and alignment between engineering intent and manufacturing requirements, to meet programme deliverables. This includes supporting change management, BoM maturity activities, and cross-functional data coordination throughout the vehicle development.
The team is responsible for enabling the reliable exchange of product data, ensuring data integrity, traceability, consistency, and compliance with McLaren data sharing policies.
In addition to core data transfer responsibilities, the role provides support for lifecycle the successful migration, validation, governance, and publication of engineering product data across enterprise systems and programmes. Operating within the Product Data Management (PDM) function, the role ensures that BoM, CAD data, product structures, and configuration information are accurately transposed between internal and external systems throughout the product lifecycle.
What You'll Do
BoM & Product Structure Management
- Perform BoM validation activities across assigned programmes.
- Support development of concept, mule, prototype, and programme BoMs using PMXU Product Specifications.
- Support release readiness and freeze activities in line with programme timeline. Resolve BoM discrepancies, missing data, attribute conflicts, and structure issues.
- Support root-cause investigations impacting engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and procurement.
- Maintain accurate product configurations, vehicle variants, through evolution, and VC application, ensuring complete and buildable configurations against product specifications.

Engineering Data Transfer
- Perform CAD and metadata transfers between PLM systems, internal customers, and external partners.
- Validate CAD and metadata quality before transfer.
- Ensure compliance with IP protection, NDAs, transfer agreements, and governance requirements.
- Maintain transfer traceability and audit records.
- Liaise with Engineering, IT, and external partners to resolve transfer issues and support programme delivery.
- Understand data structures and export workflows to support root-cause analysis.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with Engineering, Programme, IT, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Quality teams.
- Provide guidance on BoM structures, configuration management, and release processes.
- Support onboarding and act as a subject matter expert for BoM and product structure management.
- Develop standards, procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
- Identify opportunities to streamline or automate validation, reporting, and data management activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across PDM, PMO, and PLM.
What You'll Bring
- Good amount of experience in automotive or similar engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of BoM principles, product configuration, and engineering data structures.
- Proven experience with PLM systems (3DEXPERIENCE and CATIA essential).
- Working understanding of data management workflows and engineering change processes.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple programmes
