Company Description

We’re Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day.

We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers.

Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale.

If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.

With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.

About The Team

Data Analytics is a highly visible function that directly shapes Checkout.com's success. You'll join the Business & Operations Analytics squad, working alongside product managers, designers, and software and analytics engineers to influence the strategy of our Operations and Compliance products.

You'll be backed by Senior Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and Data Product Managers as you grow your practice.

The role

You'll Work Across Two Connected Domains

  • AML Transaction Monitoring — the automated rules that flag suspicious transactions for review. You'll improve how those rules work and help automate alert handling.
  • Merchant Care — the tools and support experience for our merchants. You'll measure whether new tools save time, and mine support conversations to show product teams what to build next.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll define how we measure product success, shape what data we collect, build the frameworks that turn it into insight, and surface opportunities to improve the product.

What you'll do

  • Measure impact — build frameworks for the efficiency and ROI of new tooling in Merchant Care, so we know which changes are worth it.
  • Protect data quality — partner with engineers to capture and model the right data for trustworthy insights.
  • Optimise AML rules — run simulations on past data to see how rule changes affect review backlogs, and recommend better logic for our SQL-based alerts.
  • Automate alerts — help build and test an agent that clears clearly low-risk alerts, freeing specialists for the cases that matter.
  • Find insight in text — cluster and summarise support conversations (using AI) to spot recurring merchant problems and guide the roadmap.

What success looks like

In Your First 6–12 Months, You'll Help

  • deflect % of Merchant Care contacts through better tooling;
  • deliver rule-threshold recommendations that cut review backlogs for Compliance and Product;
  • get the automated alert-handling agent tested and into use.

What we're looking for

  • SQL (essential) — advanced data interrogation. This is the core technical requirement and is assessed in the process.
  • Python or R (a plus) — scripting for data science strengthens your application, but doesn't substitute for strong SQL.
  • Data science foundations — statistics, clustering, and basic NLP. No production ML needed, but you know how to apply these methods.
  • Analytical mindset — you turn messy operational problems into structured, data-informed solutions.
  • Communication — you explain insights and analytical logic clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience — ~2–3 years in professional data science or product analytics, with at least 1–2 in a fast-moving startup/scale-up. A strong internship can count towards this alongside 1–2 years of professional work; this is not an entry-level role, and internships alone won't be enough.
