Start Date: Immediate
Role Purpose
To help ensure that products supplied by Ammo & Company meet the applicable customer specification, approved Standard Pattern, workmanship sample, and agreed quality requirements. The role is intended for a design-qualified person whose curiosity and strong willingness to learn will help them build knowledge across our varied products, materials, and manufacturing methods. They will develop technical judgement through supervised inspections, accurate records, and structured training. This is a trainee role; independent technical approval is not part of the initial appointment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an organised specification library, including current specifications, drawings, revisions, approved samples, and associated correspondence.
- Receive, identify, log, store, and track Standard Patterns, customer workmanship samples, supplier samples, and production reference samples.
- Read specifications and compare products with approved references; record measurements, construction, materials, finish, and any discrepancies in a consistent manner.
- Carry out goods inward inspections to agreed sampling plans and procedures and maintain clear inspection records.
- Review supplier pre-shipment inspection records for completeness and apparent discrepancies; escalate concerns before goods are accepted or released.
- Coordinate testing: identify requirements, prepare submissions, track laboratories and results, and report findings to the manager responsible.
- Raise nonconformance reports with factual evidence, photographs, and references to the applicable requirement; follow actions through to closure under supervision.
- Help develop and improve practical inspection checklists, sample controls, and technical procedures with purchasing, production, and product specialists.
- Communicate findings clearly and professionally to colleagues and suppliers, including when a quality concern needs to be challenged or escalated.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Authority and Supervision
The postholder may inspect, document, recommend, and escalate. They must not independently approve a new specification, design or material change, customer concession, departure from an approved Standard Pattern, or release of disputed products. Those decisions remain with the designated authorised manager and, where the contract requires it, the customer. Any later delegated authority must follow training, assessment, and written appointment.
Development of the Role
Responsibilities will be introduced in stages. Initial work will focus on the specification and sample registers, supervised inspection, and accurate reporting. With demonstrated competence, the postholder may take greater ownership of testing coordination, supplier records, goods inward inspections, and procedure development. Training objectives and sign-off limits will be reviewed regularly by the line manager.
