Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Design Engineer based in United Kingdom.
As a Product Design Engineer, you’ll combine product design and front-end engineering to take ideas from early exploration through to production. You’ll shape what is worth building, prototype rapidly, and personally turn strong concepts into polished digital experiences. Working within a product squad, you’ll partner closely with software engineers while owning the experience and interface layer. A major focus will be designing human-centred experiences for AI-native products, where users supervise, review, correct, and authorise work performed by intelligent agents. You’ll have substantial influence over product decisions rather than simply executing finished specifications. This is an ideal role for a multidisciplinary builder who values speed, craft, product judgment, and the ability to ship.
Accountabilities:
- Explore product opportunities through user research, experimentation, prototyping, and iterative design to identify the strongest solutions.
- Carry product concepts through to production-ready front-end experiences, combining design decisions and implementation within the same workflow.
- Help define what is worth building by engaging with users, challenging assumptions, validating problems, and shaping scope with the product squad.
- Design and build intuitive supervisory interfaces for AI-native workflows, including triage queues, confidence and citation patterns, briefings, and other decision-support experiences.
- Use AI tools throughout the product development lifecycle, including research, design, prototyping, development, and testing.
- Evaluate AI-generated outputs critically, applying strong product and design judgment rather than relying on automated results without review.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers responsible for the underlying systems and ensure the final experience works effectively with the technical architecture.
- Take ownership of front-end quality, including performance, accessibility, responsive behaviour, cross-device compatibility, and perceived speed.
- Continuously iterate on products based on user feedback, technical constraints, and real-world usage.
- Deliver polished, production-ready experiences that balance usability, functionality, technical feasibility, and visual quality.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements:
- Proven experience designing and building front-end products through to production, with ownership of both the experience and implementation.
- Strong design judgment and visual/product taste, with the ability to distinguish genuinely excellent experiences from interfaces that are merely functional.
- Strong product instinct and the ability to challenge assumptions, reduce unnecessary scope, and validate ideas with real users.
- Fluency in modern web development and front-end engineering practices.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tooling across multiple stages of product development, including research, design, prototyping, coding, and testing.
- Strong understanding of AI limitations and failure modes, with the ability to identify when AI-generated output appears correct but is not.
- Experience creating data-rich, complex, or high-stakes interfaces for demanding professional users.
- Ability to communicate credibly with domain experts and translate complex workflows into clear, effective product experiences.
- Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, performance, and cross-device behaviour.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary product squad alongside software engineers and other stakeholders.
- Candidates may come from design, engineering, or multidisciplinary backgrounds; the key requirement is the ability to design, build, and ship high-quality products.
