Product Design Engineer

We are looking for a talented Product Design Engineer to join our team, specialising in product design, development and product support within our Distribution Business Unit (DBU) organisation in Wellingborough.

This product-focused role applies engineering principles and design practices to create optimised design concepts and mechanical design specifications that meet cross-functional requirements. Working collaboratively across multiple disciplines, you will help translate customer requirements into effective engineering solutions, supporting the achievement of product design and engineering objectives.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Investigate product issues, identify root causes, and develop effective, sustainable solutions that improve product performance and reliability.
  • Apply structured problem-solving tools and engineering methodologies to support informed technical decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Lead critical design reviews and validation activities, using tools such as iDFMEA, CREO and ANSYS Workbench to drive high-quality component and subsystem design decisions and product release.
  • Contribute to Lean Product Development (LPD), Value Package Introduction (VPI) and Current Product Support (CPS) activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate requirements, provide technical recommendations and support informed product decisions.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering solutions that balance technical requirements, customer needs, quality, cost and reliability objectives.
  • Drive assigned projects forward by managing priorities, timelines and deliverables while coordinating effectively with technicians, suppliers and project team members.
  • Build technical expertise while contributing innovative ideas that enhance products, processes and overall team performance.

Education/Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience applying engineering principles to product design, development, product support, testing, or technical problem-solving activities.
  • Experience creating engineering designs and 3D models using PTC Creo (preferred) or equivalent CAD software.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies, design reviews, or continuous improvement processes is preferred.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and contributing to technical project delivery.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
