Coats Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Product Designer to join an established design and manufacturing business based in Northamptonshire.

This is a permanent, on-site position offering the opportunity to work on bespoke products supplied into a range of high-profile industries, including aerospace, defence, healthcare, automotive and power generation.

The Role

You'll be involved throughout the full product development process, from initial concept and design through to prototype and final manufacture.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating 2D technical drawings, general assemblies and 3D models
  • Designing products using SolidWorks
  • Producing initial concepts and hand sketches
  • Taking projects from concept through to prototype and manufacture
  • Working directly with customers to understand requirements and develop solutions
  • Communicating with customers both face-to-face and occasionally over the phone
  • Liaising with suppliers, sales and manufacturing teams
  • Supporting new product development and improvements to existing products
  • Ensuring designs meet customer specifications and can be manufactured effectively

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • At least 1 year's experience in Product Design, Packaging Design, Design Engineering or a similar environment
  • Strong SolidWorks experience
  • Experience producing 2D drawings and 3D models
  • Good hand-sketching and visualisation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment would be advantageous
  • AutoCAD and/or Creo experience would be beneficial
