THE OPPORTUNITY
THAT TIME is a booking and payments platform built for salons, barbershops, clinics and wellness businesses.
In three years, we've grown to more than 2,000 businesses and processed over £100 million in bookings through the platform.
Now we're building the next chapter.
Over the past year, we've invested significantly in our brand and product experience, working with an external agency to develop a new visual identity, UX/UI direction and the foundations for the next generation of THAT TIME.
As we move into the next phase, we want to bring dedicated design ownership inside THAT TIME — giving one person the opportunity to take everything we've created so far and own where it goes next.
And where we're going is considerably bigger than where we are today. We're expanding internationally, with several new markets already in our sights. At the same time, our long-term product ambition goes beyond the industries THAT TIME serves today.
We want to build a booking platform flexible enough to work across different services, businesses, markets and ways of booking — without losing the simplicity that made it work in the first place.
That creates some genuinely interesting design challenges.
- How does a product feel purpose-built for the person using it without becoming so specific that it only works for one industry?
- How does an experience adapt across countries, currencies and customer behaviours without creating different versions of the product everywhere we go?
- How do you make something increasingly powerful feel increasingly simple?
We don't have every answer yet. That's partly why we're hiring you.
THE ROLE
There are two major parts to this role, and they'll run alongside each other.
01 — Build what comes next
You won't be starting from a blank Figma file. A significant amount of work has already gone into our new brand, user experience, interface design and design system. You'll inherit those foundations and become responsible for evolving them.
You'll design new features and journeys, develop existing thinking, evolve our design system and work closely with our developers as the next generation of THAT TIME moves from design into a live product.
And nothing is sacred.
If something we've already designed can be better, we expect you to challenge it. The goal isn't simply to finish what's already been designed. It's to take the thinking that's there and keep pushing it forward as our product, customers and ambitions evolve.
02 — Improve what customers use today
At the same time, more than 2,000 businesses are using our existing platform every day to manage appointments, customers, staff and payments.
We're not going to stop improving that experience while we build what comes next. You'll help modernise the current platform visually, create greater consistency and improve UX where existing journeys can be made simpler.
This isn't a rebuild.
It's about identifying where design can make the biggest difference, making smart improvements and getting them into customers' hands. Sometimes that will be a focused visual improvement. Sometimes it will mean stepping back and rethinking an entire journey.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your job doesn't finish when a Figma file gets handed over. What ships matters.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You genuinely understand UX and UI!
You can take a complicated workflow and make it feel simple.
But you care just as much about the final interface — hierarchy, typography, spacing, interaction and the small details that make software feel considered.
We're not looking for a UX designer who needs someone else to finish the UI.
And we're not looking for someone who creates beautiful screens without thinking deeply about how people actually use them. You need to be good at both.
You've designed real digital products
Ideally, you've worked on SaaS, marketplaces, fintech, booking platforms or another digital product with real workflows and complexity.
You understand that designing software someone uses to run their business every day is different from designing a marketing website.
You can build on someone else's work
You'll inherit a substantial amount of design thinking.
We need someone who can understand what's there, recognise what's good, challenge what isn't and continue developing it.
You don't need to redesign something just so it becomes yours.
Make it better and it becomes yours
You're comfortable working with developers
Your job doesn't finish at handover. You'll work closely with our development team, answer questions, solve problems together, adapt when technical realities require it and review implementation. A perfect Figma file that doesn't become a great product isn't useful to us.
You have a point of view!
You'll work directly with both founders. We have opinions. We don't need someone who simply agrees with them. If you think there's a better way to solve something, show us. Equally, you'll need to be comfortable having your own work challenged.
The best idea wins. You're pragmatic
We care deeply about design, but we're also running a live software business.
Not every problem needs weeks of discovery. Sometimes the right answer is to understand the problem, make a sensible decision, design it and ship it. Other problems deserve much deeper thinking. Good designers know which is which.

WHAT THIS ROLE ISN'T
This isn't a Product Manager role.
You won't be expected to define company strategy, own the commercial roadmap or decide what engineering works on next.
And it isn't a production design role where somebody hands you a finished brief and asks you to make the screens.
You'll sit between those two things.
We'll bring commercial priorities, customer problems, product requirements, data and ideas to the table. You'll bring customer understanding, UX thinking, visual design and the ability to turn complexity into something that feels obvious.
We'll work out the best answer together.
WHY JOIN NOW?
This is the first permanent in-house Product Designer role at THAT TIME, but it isn't the beginning of design at THAT TIME.
We've already invested heavily in the foundations of what comes next.
What we're looking for now is someone with the time, ownership and proximity to the business to keep pushing it forward every day.
That puts you in an unusual position.
You're joining early enough to have genuine influence over what the product becomes, but late enough that there's already a real business, thousands of customers and strong foundations to build from.
And the scope from here gets much bigger.
We have a five-year product vision.
We're expanding internationally.
We're designing for more markets, more customers and, over time, a much broader range of businesses than THAT TIME serves today.
That means the design challenge grows with us.
We're hiring one Product Designer today. We don't expect design at THAT TIME to remain a team of one forever.
We're not going to promise job titles or promotions before someone has even joined. But if you're ambitious, take ownership and grow with the business, there's a genuine opportunity to eventually help shape the team and design function around you.
For the right person, this shouldn't feel like joining to maintain somebody else's product.
It should feel like getting in early enough to help define what it becomes.
HOW WE WORK
We're remote-first, but we're not fully remote.
We believe some work is simply better done together, so wherever you're based, you should expect regular time in person.
If you're UK-based, you'll meet with the wider team at least once a month, with additional days together when we're working through something important.
If you're Dubai-based, you'll spend regular time working in person with our Dubai-based founder, again with a minimum of once a month.
We're flexible about where you work day to day. We don't have arbitrary office days for the sake of being in an office — but we do expect everyone to make the effort to get in a room together when it matters.
You'll have direct access to the founders, developers and customers using what you design.
