We are a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Product Designer. This position reports to Head of Design and Engineering and will work in Selsey Office.
Purpose of Role
- To provide product support to the business for existing and new designs.
- To aid sales where applicable to improve the quality and reliability of existing and new designs.
- To help implement best practice and drive the business capabilities forward.
Main Responsibilities
- Input to new products and design improvements as required within a DPDP or DPIP process.
- Ensure approved Book of Requirements requests are translated into clear manufacturing instructions in a timely manner.
- Work within the design team to comply with DPDP & DPIP procedures.
- Take responsibility for assigned key products within the business.
- Provide technical support to sales and customers.
- Develop and maintain product design standards.
- Work to value engineering in design for manufacture and assembly.
- Liaise with production, quality and other departments as required to improve product quality.
- Create bills of materials / cutting lists, production routings as required.
- Oversee pre-production / first off assembly of new designs, improved designs and custom products.
- Ensure the quality of the information translates into quality products to the customer.
- Apply the principle of continuous improvement of all processes and activities.
- Create or improve working methods to improve quality and reduce repetitive workload.
- Always apply and implement lean manufacturing principles.
- Ensure that obsolete products and parts are correctly dealt with.
- Any other tasks required as directed.
- Ensure all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are always followed. The role holder is encouraged to take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others.

Requirements
Background
A suitable background would be a solid experience within Product design – as well as the following qualifications and experiences:
- HNC/HND engineering qualification, relevant degree or minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering design/development role
- Computer literate with proven and competent use of 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, in the creation of designs, drawings and assemblies as required by the duties listed above

Skills, Competencies & Characteristics
- Sound engineering understanding and experience in the design of injection moulded components, aluminium extruded sections, small turned components and sheet formed parts.
- Familiarity with standard manufacturing details required for the various production processes and knowledge of suitable materials
- Experience in PDM / DDM systems and workflow processes an advantage
