Product Developer – Nutrition

Reports to: Managing Director

About BodyMe

BodyMe was founded in 2011 and was one of the UK's earliest organic plant-based protein companies, long before plant-based protein became mainstream.

From the beginning, we have believed that protein and nutrition should be simple, natural and made from high-quality ingredients. Today, we remain an independent British nutrition company with a simple ambition: to help people stay strong for life.

Protein sits at the heart of what we do. We create clean, natural nutrition products designed to fit easily into everyday life, using high-quality ingredients and keeping unnecessary processing and complexity out.

We also manufacture products ourselves, giving us something increasingly unusual for a growing nutrition brand: the ability to develop, test, improve and manufacture products under one roof.

More than a decade after we started, BodyMe is entering an important new phase. We are building on our heritage in organic plant-based protein with a significant pipeline of new products, formats and ingredient innovation ahead of us.

We’re looking for a talented Product Developer – Nutrition to help create the next generation of BodyMe products.

The Role

This is a hands-on NPD role with genuine ownership.

You’ll take products from early idea and bench development through formulation, testing, scale-up and commercial launch.

You’ll work across protein powders, bars, functional nutrition and emerging formats, while also continuously improving our existing products.

Because we manufacture in-house, you won’t be developing products in isolation. You’ll be able to take something you have created at the bench, put it through production and see how it performs in the real world.

We’re looking for somebody who combines food science with curiosity, creativity and commercial thinking.

What You'll Be Doing

New Product Development

  • Develop new nutrition products from initial brief through to commercial launch.
  • Create and iterate formulations through hands-on bench development and sensory testing.
  • Translate successful bench formulations into repeatable commercial manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and manage production trials and first manufacturing runs.
  • Research new proteins, functional ingredients, flavours and processing technologies.
  • Benchmark products, ingredients and emerging developments across the nutrition and wider food and wellness markets.
  • Work with external specialists, universities and ingredient technology partners where appropriate.
  • Maintain clear project plans and development timelines across multiple NPD projects.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You

We're less interested in somebody who can simply follow an established NPD process than somebody who genuinely wants to understand why a product works and how it could be better.

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Product Development or a related discipline.
  • Experience taking products from concept through trials and into commercial production.

  • A good understanding of food ingredients and how they behave within formulations.
  • Experience completing nutritional calculations, specifications and product documentation.
  • A good working understanding of UK food labelling and regulatory requirements.

Experience developing protein, sports nutrition, functional foods, powders, bars or supplements would be particularly relevant.

A degree, diploma or recognised certification in nutrition would be a significant advantage.

HACCP and food-safety qualifications would also be useful.

How You Work

BodyMe is a small business, so this role suits someone who enjoys having responsibility rather than working within layers of management.

You'll be:

  • Naturally curious
  • Highly practical and willing to get your hands dirty
  • Scientifically minded without losing sight of the customer
  • Commercially aware
  • Comfortable experimenting and learning quickly
  • Organised enough to run several projects simultaneously
  • Confident working independently
  • Happy collaborating directly with production teams and suppliers
  • Excited by building something rather than simply maintaining it

Most importantly, you'll care about creating genuinely better nutrition products.

Why BodyMe?

In a large food business, a Product Developer may own one small part of the development process.

Here, you'll see the whole thing.

You'll be able to experiment at the bench, work directly with ingredients and suppliers, trial products on our manufacturing equipment and then see something you developed become a BodyMe product.

We're entering a period of significant product innovation, including a new generation of clean protein products and formats.

For the right developer, it's an opportunity to have a disproportionate influence on what BodyMe becomes next.

What We Offer

  • £42,000 salary
  • Company pension
  • Private health insurance
  • Complimentary BodyMe products
  • Free onsite parking
  • Significant ownership of the NPD pipeline
  • Direct involvement in shaping the future BodyMe product portfolio
  • The freedom and speed that comes from working within an independent, founder-led business

If you’re passionate about creating genuinely better, more natural nutrition — and excited by the freedom to challenge convention in how products are developed — we’d like to hear from you.
