Product Development Engineer

Purpose of Role

The primary purpose of this role is to support the development of commercial vehicle safety products, including new designs, upgrades, and modifications. Operating at product level, the Product Development Engineer will work with advanced technologies and play a key role in growing technical leadership, protecting intellectual property, and improving development efficiency.

This is a supplier facing position working with multiple manufacturers across different geographic regions. The candidate will need to navigate cultural, language and time zone differences to ensure projects keep to agreed specification, schedule and budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the development of automotive safety products internally and with the partners and suppliers
  • Perform, coordinate and oversee product and system testing, analysis, evaluation, verification, validation, and certification including bench, outdoor, and vehicle-level testing
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation including product requirements, validation plans, user manuals, technical specifications, technical drawings, etc
  • Support project timelines, risks, and delivery milestones. Participate in project team meetings and other Engineering activities
  • Provide technical support and training to the internal teams and customers as necessary
  • Perform electrical and mechanical modifications, and rework of production units where required
  • Other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the business needs

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with electronics or finished products, and with knowledge of cameras, monitors, CANbus, video signals, PCB design, or automotive electronic development
  • Degree in Electronics, Product Development, or similar
  • Familiar with Microsoft 365 suite, standard desktop applications, AutoCAD, and AI tools
  • Competent in the use of electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes and signal generators for testing and PCB-level fault finding
  • Self-motivated with a practical aptitude and taking full responsibility for the quality of own work. Able to multitask, meet deadlines, and work beyond normal business hours when required
  • Resourceful and eager to learn with a natural respect for company and colleagues. Strong team working, verbal, and written communication skills are essential
  • Manual driving license and the right to drive in the UK
