PURPOSE OF ROLE Naked Energy has developed Virtu: a family of solar products that provide simultaneous heat and power to commercial and industrial buildings. Having commercialised the present generation of Virtu technology, Naked Energy is now looking to develop the next generation to achieve improved thermal and electrical performance, lower cost and easier integration.
The successful candidate will work within the team on the development of the next generation of Virtu product.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Head of Product Innovation on Naked Energy's product range and product roadmap
- Design, construct, and instrument experimental apparatus and test rigs, selecting appropriate sensors, transducers, and data acquisition equipment to investigate physical phenomena relevant to product development
- Operate experimental rigs safely and reliably, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and maintaining equipment, calibration records, and lab safety standards
- Collect and analyse experimental data to draw rigorous, evidence-based conclusions, critically evaluating results in real time and adapting test procedures or setups in response to findings
- Design and build prototypes and physical models to support concept development, testing, and design validation
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Professional experience in either an industry or academic environment, working with scientists and engineers to develop broad projects
- Practical, hands-on approach to building and troubleshooting physical setups
- Experience collecting and interpreting quantitative data
- Good understanding of basic measurement principles (sensors, signal quality, sources of error/uncertainty)

Desirable
- Bachelors or masters in STEM (or equivalent vocational qualification/experience)
- Experience in solar, renewables, or heating/cooling technology
- Familiarity with data acquisition software/hardware (e.g. LabVIEW, DAQ systems, Arduino/Raspberry Pi-based setups)
- Basic familiarity with tools for data analysis (e.g. Excel/VBA, Python)
- Experience with CAD or mechanical design tools
- A genuine interest in technology and how things work — e.g. pursuing personal projects, tinkering, or self-directed technical learning
- Knowledge of relevant lab safety practices and risk assessment
