About The Role
We are seeking a Product Development Scientist or Senior Product Development Scientist to join our Product Development team based at our Stallingborough site.
The level of appointment will depend on your qualifications, technical expertise and relevant industry experience.
As a Scientist with the Product Development team, you contribute to all aspects of product development, including some planning and undertaking laboratory and pilot plant work, producing prototypes and understanding and helping to solve technical problems relating to the coatings, paper and plastics segment. Working as part of a team, you will support the development and transfer of products from concept to commercialisation.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Demonstrate safe working practices in all areas of work (Labs, pilot plant and plant).
- Maintain Laboratory facilities in accordance with site safety requirements.
- Help to maintain pilot plant equipment / Instruments in accordance with site safety requirements.
- Assist in researching IP space during concept development stage of projects.
- Produce laboratory made prototype samples for evaluation purposes.
- Assist in making pilot made prototypes for evaluation purposes.
- Support investigations into solving technical problems related to the coatings, paper & plastics segment.
- Work with senior scientists and project leads to plan and execute development programmes.
- Support scale up activities, plant trials and associated product assessments during and after plant trials.
- Accurately record, analyse and interpret experimental data. This may require communications to more senior personnel.
- Be a resource on project teams and plant trials (UK & abroad).
- Complete COSHH and risk assessments and actively participate in building / site safety initiatives.
- Identify and share continuous improvement ideas that may enhance process, product development, safety and cost reduction.

If appointed as a Senior Product Development Scientist, you will:
- Be responsible for demonstrating a safe working environment and adhere to environmentally safe work practices.
- Maintain Laboratory in accordance with site safety rules.
- Maintain pilot plant equipment / Instruments in accordance with site safety rules.
- Be competent in researching IP space during concept development stage of projects.
- Be responsible for mentoring junior scientists.
- Be responsible for producing lab made and pilot made prototypes.
- Be responsible for solving technical problems related to the coatings & plastics segment.
- Plan with manager the next steps for progressing a project.
- Plan and perform laboratory and pilot plant work independently with guidance from Manager.
- Perform in process testing on prototypes.
- Be a resource on project team and plant trials (UK & abroad).
- Record and analyse data and present in both written and oral form to seniors. Discuss implications of findings on project progress.
- Identify and share continuous improvement ideas that may enhance process, product development, safety and cost reduction.
- Perform COSHH and risk assessments, participate in building safety initiatives.
About You

Product Development Scientist
Successful Candidates Will Have The Following Qualifications And Experience:
- A-levels to include Chemistry and Mathematics, and preferably a degree in Chemisty.
- Experience in a laboratory environment, preferably within chemical manufacturing or product development.
- Knowledge of inorganic chemistry and some material characteristics.
- Some understanding of laboratory safety practices and SHE requirements.
- Some analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
- Some commercial awareness of the chemical manufacturing industry.
- Experience in Six Sigma methodologies (Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, etc.).
- The ability to work equally well as part of a team or independently.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Competent in writing reports, performing presentations, and verbal communication skills.

Senior Product Development Scientist
Successful Candidates Will Have The Following Qualifications And Experience:
- Honours degree in Chemistry or related subject.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in an industrial manufacturing environment preferably within the inorganic chemistry or chemical manufacturing industry.
- Preferred experience in the chemistry and physics of particles, or in the coatings industry.
- Good commercial awareness of the chemical manufacturing industry.
- A good knowledge of health and safety procedures generally in relation to internal Safety, Health, and the Environment (SHE) and Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) protocols.
- Ability to introduce new concepts and methods to work processes.
- Experience in Six Sigma methodologies (Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, etc.).
- The ability to work equally well as part of a team or independently.
- Competent in documenting all potential Intellectual Property (IP); submitting invention disclosures; and being part of a team working with attorneys on patent applications.
- Competent in writing reports, performing presentations, and verbal communication skills.
