Job Title: Product Development Technologist
Location: Home Farm, Isle of Arran
Contract Type: 14 months fixed-term, 40 hours per week
ARRAN Sense of Scotland is looking for a Product Development Technologist to join our Technical team. This hands-on role supports the development of cosmetics and home fragrance products for the ARRAN brand and contract manufacturing clients, spanning formulation and laboratory work, regulatory/compliance administration, NPD project support, and manufacturing support.
The Role

Product development & formulation:
- Support the development and reformulation of cosmetic and home fragrance products for ARRAN and contract manufacturing clients
- Prepare laboratory and pilot-scale batches
- Research ingredients and formulations
- Assist with troubleshooting and scale-up

Testing & laboratory support:
- Coordinate laboratory samples
- Carry out internal testing including stability and candle burn testing
- Maintain accurate development and laboratory records

Regulatory & compliance:
- Support product safety and legal compliance, including technical files, safety assessment information, product registration administration, supplier documentation, and product records

NPD project support:
- Maintain project plans, specifications, approvals, and trackers
- Coordinate samples and technical information
- Follow up actions with suppliers, clients, and internal stakeholders

Production support:
- Provide technical support to Production
- Work collaboratively across Technical, Quality, Design, Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, and Operations
Who We Are Looking For
- Experience in cosmetic formulation, product development, or a technical/laboratory role is highly desirable.
- A relevant qualification in cosmetic science, chemistry, or another scientific/technical discipline would be advantageous; an SCS Diploma in Cosmetic Science or equivalent would be particularly relevant.
- Transferable experience from personal care, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food and drink, or another regulated manufacturing environment will also be considered.
- You should be confident in a practical laboratory environment, methodical, and well-organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication and administrative skills are important, including confidence managing technical documentation, multiple priorities, and project actions.
- Experience of regulatory/compliance administration, ERP systems, or quality processes would be beneficial.
