Product Engineer

Location: Fareham
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are recruiting for an experienced Product Engineer to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Fareham.

This is a varied, hands-on engineering role where you’ll act as a key link between customer requirements and manufacturing, ensuring technical information is accurately translated into clear production documentation. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Sales, while supporting continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.

The Role

As Product Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Inputting, reviewing, and checking Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Creating, planning, and updating detailed assembly aids and manufacturing documentation
  • Managing configuration control of engineering documents and production packs
  • Reviewing and implementing customer design changes
  • Interpreting customer drawings, parts lists, and technical specifications
  • Supporting Production with product yield analysis, trends, and root-cause investigations
  • Providing Design for Manufacture (DFM) feedback to help optimise products for assembly
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing
  • Identifying and implementing improved methods and processes to increase efficiency and manufacturing yields
  • Assisting Sales with labour estimates when required
  • Supporting Quality Assurance activities and customer quality audits
  • Liaising with customers on engineering and quality-related matters
  • Working collaboratively across Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Account Management

What We’re Looking For

Electronic assembly experience is essential for this position. You’ll also need:

  • A good understanding of technical drawings and electronic component descriptions
  • Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, or technician environment
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence working with technical documentation
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and solve problems effectively
  • A calm, organised approach within a busy manufacturing environment

Experience of mechanical assembly, MRP/stock control systems, or continuous improvement would be advantageous. An engineering qualification such as an A Level, BTEC, or higher would also be beneficial but is not essential.
