Job Title
A technology-led engineering organisation operating in high-reliability markets is seeking an experienced Product Engineer to join its RF Electronics production team.
The organisation develops and manufactures advanced electronic technologies for demanding industrial, aerospace, defence, environmental, scientific and medical applications. The successful candidate will join a collaborative engineering environment where innovation, reliability, quality and continuous improvement are central to the operation.
The Role
The Product Engineering team provides engineering support across the full product lifecycle, from initial design and prototype builds through development, production, product support and end-of-life. The role will work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality and Project teams to resolve production issues, improve manufacturing processes and support the introduction of new products into production.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Production Engineering
- Provide hands-on engineering support to production, including component-level fault finding and structured problem solving.
- Investigate technical issues and drive problems through to root cause and sustainable corrective action.
- Work closely with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to resolve technical and production issues.
- Investigate, document and report faults associated with customer products and implement corrective improvements.
- Provide technical input throughout the manufacturing process.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, product quality, cost and ease of manufacture.
Manufacturing Process Development
- Analyse and develop manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality and flexibility.
- Support the development of balanced production lines capable of adapting to changing production requirements.
- Create, review and maintain clear and concise standard operating procedures and manufacturing work instructions.
- Maintain configuration control documentation and manufacturing standard times.
- Develop and review Process FMEAs, Control Plans and Risk Assessments, ensuring identified actions are completed.
- Develop medium- and long-term improvement plans for products and manufacturing processes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

New Product Introduction
- Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing.
- Review new and existing designs against Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Coordinate manufacturing engineering activities through relevant stages of the new product introduction process.
- Work with Engineering and Project teams to ensure manufacturing requirements are addressed during product development.
- Understand component lifecycle, sourcing, availability and lead-time considerations.
Manufacturing Change Control
- Plan and manage manufacturing changes from initial concept through to production implementation.
- Coordinate process improvements, trials, concessions and other manufacturing changes through the appropriate control processes.
- Manage the introduction of new components, tooling and equipment into the manufacturing environment.
- Support the delivery of pre-production parts and assemblies to engineering and project teams.
Health & Safety
- Support production with risk assessments and COSHH assessments.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert for relevant products, components, assembly and test processes.
- Promote and support a strong health and safety culture.
Commercial / Project Support
- Support customer and project bids by preparing relevant technical and manufacturing information.
Essential Experience & Competencies
- Demonstrable experience within an engineering role supporting electronics manufacturing.
- At least 5 years' experience in electronics test and/or manufacturing engineering.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Working knowledge of mechanical manufacturing principles, including DFM and DFA.
- Practical understanding of electrical and mechanical assembly, manufacturing and test.
- Ability to produce concise technical reports and effective presentations.
- High level of self-motivation, initiative and creativity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.

Technical
- Strong electronics knowledge, including component-level fault finding.
- Knowledge of electrical and RF test techniques is advantageous.
- Knowledge of high-voltage electronics and encapsulation processes.
- Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, A3 and Root Cause Analysis.
- Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) data and calculations.
Security
- Must be capable of obtaining the appropriate level of UK Security Clearance, potentially including SC clearance.
Desirable Experience
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems, ideally including SAP.
- Experience implementing product safety risk assessments and associated mitigation measures.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with quality improvement tools and techniques.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
