Board Intelligence
Board Intelligence is a technology and advisory firm on a mission to make boards more effective, and through them, build better businesses and benefit society.
Over twenty years we have established ourselves as the market leader in governance and board effectiveness, trusted by more than 80,000 directors, executives, and governance professionals globally, including across the Fortune 500, FTSE 100, and OMX 30. That trust has been earned through depth of insight, rigorous advisory work, and a track record that newer entrants simply cannot replicate.
We have invested in applied AI since 2020, well ahead of the market, and that early conviction has paid off. Our AI-powered platform and smart board advisor give us a competitive advantage that is widening, not narrowing. In 2024, K1 Investment Management, the leading B2B Enterprise SaaS investor, backed us to accelerate that position further. We are now growing fast, with a proven commercial model spanning both mid-market and enterprise, and a product suite that has become a necessary addition in high-stakes board environments.
The people joining us now will shape how we scale. We are deliberate about how we do that. Our founders and leadership team are deeply invested in keeping the culture that got us here: thoughtful, high calibre, and genuinely human. Ambition and balance are not in competition at Board Intelligence.
If you want to work at the intersection of AI and governance, on problems that matter at the highest level, this is a strong place to be.
Our Mission
We unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefitting society.
The Role
Board Intelligence's software is used by boards and leadership teams at some of the most heavily regulated organisations in the world, including major financial services firms. They trust us with their most sensitive information, and they expect our platform to meet the highest standards of security.
We are setting up a new Platform Experience team to build the web applications and APIs that power the whole platform, rather than features for individual products or clients. This is a product engineering role, not a platform or infrastructure role. Much of the work is in authentication and security, and many of the most interesting problems come from what large enterprise clients ask of us.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

There is substantial work ready to start: a SCIM API so clients can automate user provisioning, and passkey (FIDO2) support. You will work alongside a highly experienced engineer who knows this area deeply. Our stack spans Ruby, TypeScript (React), Python and Java, and we are a Claude Code shop, with access from your first day.
Main Responsibilities
- Design, build and ship the web applications and APIs that underpin the Board Intelligence platform
- Lead work on platform features, such as authentication and identity, ensuring we have products that meet the expectations of our enterprise clients.
- Work directly with clients' IT and technology teams to understand their requirements, ask the right questions and push back where needed
- Build to the security and data protection standards that regulated financial services clients expect
- Work across our stack, including Ruby, TypeScript (React), Python and Java
- Share knowledge with colleagues and build depth in a critical part of the platform
- Use AI tools such as Claude Code to move faster, while keeping engineering standards high
Person Specification
Required Skills and Experience
- Upper mid-level to senior professional software engineering experience.
- Professional experience with Ruby, alongside at least one other language: we want an engineer who is comfortable across languages, but has significant Ruby experience
- Strong engineering foundations that carry across languages and frameworks, including system design, testing and code quality
- Experience building and maintaining web applications and APIs in production
- Confidence working with clients' technical teams: asking good questions and pushing back rather than saying yes to everything
- Experience using AI coding tools in your day-to-day work, with the judgement to keep quality high
- Fluent written and spoken English
Nice to haves
- Experience in a regulated enterprise environment, such as financial services, and an understanding of why enterprise clients ask for what they do
- Experience building or integrating authentication systems, such as SSO, SAML, OpenID Connect, SCIM or passkeys
- Experience with TypeScript and React, Python or Java
- A strong interest in security and data protection
