The Tripadvisor Experiences Engineering team is distributed across Europe and is responsible for the platform, mobile apps, and all their supporting infrastructure. We run the systems that help operators build their businesses and those which enable third parties to utilise our inventory. We provide the tools which help our customer services team provide world-class service to travelers and operators internationally.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Product Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will combine deep engineering craftsmanship with strong product instincts to deliver impactful solutions across multiple platforms. You will work across the entire stack—mobile, web, and backend—focusing on high-leverage problems that drive business growth. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, scope, and ship features that enhance our platform’s performance and reliability. You will architect scalable, reliable systems that withstand real-world conditions, including performance, offline behavior, and data consistency.

The ideal candidate will possess a broad technical skill set, with particular depth in mobile app ecosystems (iOS and/or Android) and a solid understanding of web and backend technologies. You will lead technical design reviews, influence product decisions, and set high standards for engineering excellence. Your role will also involve driving operational maturity, including release management, observability, incident response, and performance monitoring. You will partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineering leaders to prioritize initiatives and ensure alignment with business objectives. As a technical leader, you will exemplify best practices, mentor team members, and communicate trade-offs clearly to stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with substantial hands-on coding
  • Proven track record of shipping impactful, end-to-end product features
  • Deep expertise in mobile app development, including iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin)
  • Strong knowledge of mobile ecosystems, including offline sync, push notifications, authentication, persistence, networking, REST, and GraphQL
  • Experience working across multiple technology stacks such as web frontend, backend services, data infrastructure, or platform tooling
  • Excellent product judgment with the ability to prioritize effectively and defend technical decisions
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting production issues, including crash analysis, latency tracing, and release health debugging
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and mentor cross-functional teams
