About the role
Product Engineering: Agile & Product Excellence Lead continuously improves how Product Engineering works, helping teams deliver customer value faster, more predictably and with higher quality.
The role is responsible for improving the effectiveness of Product Engineering by optimising the flow of value from idea to customer outcome. Working across Product, Engineering and Delivery leadership, the role identifies systemic bottlenecks, reduces organisational friction, improves delivery predictability, and accelerates time-to-value.
This role combines data-driven performance improvement, operating model evolution and practical coaching to help teams continuously improve how they plan, build and deliver products. Success is measured through improvements in flow, quality, delivery outcomes, value realisation and organisational effectiveness, rather than adherence to any specific framework or methodology.
We are seeking an experienced Agile & Product Excellence Lead to guide and support our teams at Hargreaves Lansdown in their adoption and continuous improvement of best practices. This role will be instrumental in fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency and relentless improvement across our Product Engineering delivery teams.
We are looking for a hands-on leader who moves beyond Agile evangelism to take active ownership of our ways of working. This role will partner with Heads of Product and Senior Engineering Managers to establish and monitor product-focused, end-to-end tribes; identify choke points and areas of delivery risk; and proactively collaborate to resolve issues. As a hands-on role, success will be measured by value realisation rather than Agile adherence, which is particularly important as our organisation evolves its Agile approaches and outcome-driven initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Own the continuous improvement of software delivery flow and quality across Product Engineering, increasing throughput, predictability, value, time to value, and quality whilst reducing delivery risk and organisational friction and dependencies.
- Assess current maturity levels and develop tailored improvement plans for teams and the wider organisation. Providing a clear, measurable framework for demonstrable improvement in team maturity over time (including adoption, throughput, quality and value over time)
- Work directly with Product Managers, engineering teams and leadership to identify and remove flow impediments (i.e. structural, governance or delivery).
- Facilitate workshops, training sessions and retrospectives to embed Agile methodologies and address challenges. Where relevant, coach teams and leaders in how to adopt best practices and delivery frameworks
- Empower Product Engineering teams with key metrics to measure the success of their ways of working and outcomes, to drive decision making and continuous improvement.
- Establish and embed a data-driven flow management operating rhythm, leveraging delivery, dependency and team health metrics to identify risks, uncover opportunities, monitor tribe maturity, spot emerging trends, and enable proactive interventions that improve flow, delivery outcomes and value realisation.
- Champion Agile, Lean and Product values, principles and practices across multiple teams and departments within Hargreaves Lansdown, driving net consistency in practice and process.
- Coach and mentor individuals and teams on various forms of Agile, product and delivery frameworks and techniques; when to apply the right frameworks, and assist in the avoidance of applying the wrong techniques, guiding teams through the necessary change management.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, experimentation and feedback.
- Collaborate with other leaders to standardise and evolve Agile practices and tooling across the company.
- Support the implementation and optimisation of scaled Agile frameworks as needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
