We’re Hiring: Product Engineering Environment Lead
Location: London
Role Type: Contract (Full-Time, Executive/Senior Level)
Are you an experienced engineering leader who thrives on turning complex, fragmented technical estates into automated, high-performing environments? We are looking for an Interim Environments Lead to drive an operational transformation across a enterprise-scale hybrid environment estate.
In this role, you will redefine how engineering teams build, test, and integrate capabilities by treating environments as a seamless, automated service—bridging private cloud, public cloud, network topologies, and physical test equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Transform the Operating Model: Clarify roles, ownership, and clean interfaces across SDLC and SRE functions to boost team throughput and service availability across Dev, Test, and Production.
- Stabilize the Estate: Drive availability, consistency, and reduced provisioning lead times—specifically across complex environments that integrate with physical hardware.
- Elevate High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Identify high-risk areas, establish tested recovery capabilities, and define defensible RTO/RPO metrics for critical services.
- Drive Automation & Self-Service: Execute a strategic roadmap for Infrastructure/Environments as Code (IaC/EaC), automated provisioning, and deep observability to enable on-demand testing and development.
- Financial & Commercial Governance: Build and articulate clear cost-versus-value narratives and measurable KPIs for executive leadership.

What We’re Looking For
- Enterprise Experience: Proven track record leading large-scale, complex environment estates across hybrid cloud and specialized physical/network hardware.
- Automation & IaC Expertise: Hands-on understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code and Environment-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) alongside observability and CI/CD pipelines.
- DR & Continuity Depth: Strong experience designing, implementing, and testing High Availability, DR, and business continuity strategies with clear RTO/RPO frameworks.
- SRE & SDLC Grounding: Practical familiarity with SRE principles (SLIs/SLOs, toil reduction, observability) and how environment strategies intersect with release management.
- Structured Leadership: Exceptional cross-functional leadership, matrix management skills, and commercial acumen to navigate complex change quickly.
