I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As we grow and scale our transaction volume worldwide, this platform must be robust, cost-efficient, resilient, and built to handle massive scale.
In this role, you will lead key initiatives end-to-end, including:
- Building & Scaling Core Payment Rails: Expanding our global footprint by integrating directly with new payment schemes, banking partners, and clearing systems to enable instant, low-cost money movement worldwide.
- Optimizing Global Payment Flows: Enhancing platform capabilities—such as intelligent dynamic routing, automated failovers, fee netting, and smart batching—to maximize authorization rates, improve settlement speed, and reduce cost per transaction.
- Strengthening Foundational Infrastructure: Driving the evolution of our ledger and reconciliation systems. You will ensure high availability, liquidity management, and absolute precision for financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Designing Scalable Developer Experiences: Crafting highly reliable, elegant internal and external APIs that abstract away the complexity of global banking, allowing other product teams to build seamlessly on top of your infrastructure.
You will work closely with engineering, compliance, finance, operations, and commercial teams to bring these critical capabilities to life, shaping the foundation of one of the most dynamic fintech platforms in the world.
Requirements
- 10+ years of product management experience in a high-growth environment, with a significant portion of that time dedicated to fintech, payment platforms, or core infrastructure products.
- Deep domain expertise: Strong understanding of global payment systems, card networks, clearing and settlement processes, and double-entry ledger architecture.
- Technical fluency: The ability to engage confidently in complex architectural discussions alongside engineering counterparts around high-scale, highly available, mission-critical systems.
- Exceptional communication skills: The ability to translate deeply technical infrastructure strategy into clear business value for cross-functional and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical rigour: A sharp eye for detail, structured problem-solving skills, and a data-driven mindset to track system performance, authorization rates, and unit economics.
- Bias for action: Grit, persistence, and ownership to turn complex, multi-layered infrastructural challenges into shipped solutions quickly.
- Bachelor's degree or higher, with strong academic performance; technical or engineering coursework is a strong plus.
