Product Manager
Rainmaker | London | 3-5 years' experience | Embedded with the engineering team
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Rainmaker is built to give lawyers business intelligence for BD: legal news and deal data, a BD tool for building and managing approaches to prospective clients, plus a live rankings system that lets lawyers credential their work against their peers. The product launches later this year. It is AI-first in a market that has never had a product like it, and you will be shaping it from the start.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Product Manager with 3-5 years' experience to run day-to-day product operations across our delivery streams. This is an execution-focused role with wide-ranging responsibilities across the whole product function, and it suits an entrepreneurial candidate.
You will own the operational weight of getting things built: scope, tickets, sprint health, dependencies and the flow of information between the business and the engineering team. You will also support discovery, prioritisation and outcome metrics. You will report to our Head of Product and work closely with our CTO.
It is an embedded role. You will sit with the technical team rather than reviewing on a cadence, and you will be trusted to make in-the-moment calls without waiting for sign-off. The work suits someone who has shipped real products, understands what good delivery looks like and wants more ownership than a supporting role allows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prioritisation and roadmap
- Own and maintain the roadmap for your product area, balancing customer value, commercial impact, technical constraints and delivery capacity.
- Make informed decisions on priority, sequencing and trade-offs, escalating only what genuinely needs it.
- Use product data, customer insight and stakeholder feedback to challenge and refine what we build and why.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Discovery and product definition
- Lead discovery for new features and improvements, working with customers, stakeholders, Design and Engineering to understand the underlying problem before defining the solution.
- Turn ambiguous ideas and stakeholder requests into clearly defined problems, scope, user stories and acceptance criteria that Design and Engineering can build from.
- Challenge requirements and distinguish genuine user or business needs from proposed solutions.
- Identify dependencies, edge cases, risks and unanswered questions early rather than during development.
Stakeholder management
- Act as the bridge between the commercial, customer and technical teams.
- Gather input from multiple stakeholders, reconcile competing requirements and turn them into a coherent product direction.
- Communicate what is being built, why, when and what trade-offs have been made.
- Manage changes to requirements and scope, and push back constructively where a request does not align with agreed priorities or the evidence.
Delivery and execution
- Own features from definition through to release, ensuring what ships reflects the agreed requirements and the intended customer outcome.
- Work day to day with Design, Data, AI, Backend, Frontend and QA, as well as external development partners.
- Own the product backlog and run planning, refinement and reviews where they add value.
- Keep delivery moving by resolving questions quickly and unblocking the team as new information emerges.
- Track progress, scope and blockers, and validate completed work against requirements before release rather than treating a ticket as done when development finishes.
Customer and data
- Speak directly with customers to understand their needs, behaviours and pain points, and translate what you learn into product decisions.
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate existing features and find opportunities to improve them.
- Define success measures for new features, review performance after launch and feed what you learn back into the roadmap.

Documentation and governance
- Keep product documentation in Jira and Confluence current as decisions and requirements evolve, so there is a single source of truth on agreed scope.
- Ensure requirements reflect relevant legal, regulatory and business constraints, and that significant implementation decisions and dependencies are recorded.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 3-5 years' Product Management experience, including features or products you took from discovery through to launch and iteration.
- Excellent requirements definition. You distil complex or competing stakeholder needs into clear, actionable and testable requirements.
- Delivery ownership. You stay close to the work through implementation and take responsibility for the right thing shipping, accurately and on time.
- Confident with stakeholders and customers. You ask difficult questions, manage competing priorities and bring what you hear back into the product.
- Technical fluency. Enough understanding of APIs, integrations, data and modern software development to work effectively with engineers and hold your own in a technical conversation.
- Commercial awareness. You weigh customer value against business impact, cost and technical feasibility rather than optimising for one of them.
PREFERRED
- Familiarity with a legal or otherwise regulated environment, and the judgement to recognise when a requirement carries compliance implications.
- Experience with AI products and product design.
- Experience in an early-stage or pre-launch environment.
