ABOUT US

When a five-year-old boy was blinded after a regular eye exam failed to spot a retinal detachment, his father made it his life’s work to help eye care professionals by revolutionising retinal imaging. Optos was founded by Douglas Anderson in 1992 with the goal to make a patient-friendly device to quickly capture the entire retina.

The experience of Douglas Anderson is a thread that runs through the company to this day and has resulted in our products being used in nearly 20,000 locations globally. Optomap® shows up to 82% (200°) of the retina in a single-capture, offering unrivalled clarity and Optos is proud to be recognised as the leader in this field.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Product Manager, OCT is a senior individual contributor responsible for driving the commercial success and lifecycle management of assigned OCT products, including Silverstone, Hibiki, and Monaco. The role oversees the full product lifecycle, from strategy and definition through to delivery, enhancement, and ongoing optimisation, ensuring agreed timelines, budgets, and business objectives are achieved.

Working closely with cross-functional teams and external partners, the Product Manager translates customer, clinical, and market insights into clear product requirements and development priorities. The role is responsible for defining product strategy and objectives, leading product planning and execution activities, and ensuring successful product releases in line with company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

The Product Manager serves as the key product advocate, balancing customer needs, market opportunities, technical considerations, and commercial goals to maximise product performance and deliver value throughout the product lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Together with the VP Advanced Products, maintain the product strategy and roadmap for Silverstone and Hibiki and Monaco ensuring alignment to company objectives, regional needs, and measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Translate customer, clinical, and market needs into clear product requirements (PRDs/MRDs), including prioritization and trade-off decisions.
  • Create and maintain product plans (scope, milestones, dependencies) and revise as needed based on learnings, risk, and changing requirements.
  • Identify required resources and coordinate responsibilities across R&D, clinical, quality/regulatory, operations, service, and commercial teams to deliver product outcomes.
  • Manage day-to-day product execution aspects, including backlog governance, release readiness, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Effectively apply and enforce the Optos New Product Commercialisation methodology and related governance for changes and releases.
  • Actively drive risk management for product deliverables (technical, clinical, regulatory, operational, cybersecurity, supply continuity), ensuring timely resolution/escalation.
  • Define, secure, and manage product budgets (as applicable), including forecasting, cost-to-completion visibility, and investment prioritization.
  • Understand basic revenue models, margin considerations, and commercial levers for OCT product lines; partner with Finance/Commercial teams to support business cases and decisions.
  • Ensure product regulatory and legal documentation inputs are completed and approved (e.g., change impact assessments, labelling/IFU inputs, clinical evidence support) in coordination with RA/QA.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communication—internally and externally—ensuring clear “what/why/when” for releases, enhancements, and product positioning.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions, including competitive differentiation and product value messaging for OCT workflows.
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and usability for Silverstone/Hibiki/Monaco through VOC, field feedback, and post-market learnings.
  • Facilitate product and stakeholder meetings effectively; ensure decisions, actions, and risks are captured and progressed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
