Mission
As Product Manager your mission is to own the commercial performance and strategic direction of the Residential Mortgages domain. You're not here to only manage a backlog or coordinate delivery, but to ensure this product grows, performs, and evolves in a way that creates measurable value for Phoebus and for the clients who depend on it.
You'll define what the product domain needs to become, translate that into a roadmap that connects directly to business imperatives and product initiatives, and hold yourself accountable to the outcomes, not just the outputs.
Responsibilities
Commercial Ownership
- Own the commercial performance of the Residential Mortgages domain; tracking KPIs, understanding client value, and being accountable for whether the domain is moving the right business outcomes in the right direction.
- Monitor and report on domain health at a monthly cadence, surfacing risks and opportunities before they become problems.
- Understand the competitive and regulatory landscape well enough to inform where the domain needs to go next.
Product Strategy and Roadmap
- Define and maintain the Residential Mortgages product roadmap, connecting every initiative to a defined business imperative.
- Prioritise ruthlessly – making clear, well-reasoned & data informed decisions about what gets built, when, and why.
- Bring roadmap proposals to the Product Steering Committee for ratification, with clear supporting rationale of the recommendation presented and details of the options considered.
- Identify product gaps - where client needs aren't being met by the core product or configurable features and advocate for their resolution through the right channels.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Discovery and Definition
- Lead discovery for your domain understanding client & prospects workflows, pain points, and unmet needs through research and direct client engagement.
- Define problems clearly before solutions, write crisp, outcome-focused initiative briefs that engineering and design can work from.
- Collaborate with the UI redesign programme to ensure Residential Mortgages workflows are well-represented in delivering an intuitive user experience.
Delivery and Governance
- Work closely with engineering to ensure initiatives are well-understood, properly scoped, and delivered to the standard required.
- Maintain Jira as a live, accurate reflection of the domain's work. Connect epics and stories to initiatives and ensure priorities are clearly communicated.
Stakeholder Management
- Be the internal authority on the Residential Mortgages domain, able to speak to its commercial performance, its roadmap, and its strategic direction with confidence.
- Build strong working relationships with Client Management to ensure client commitments are made within scope and surfaced through the right governance.
- Represent the domain clearly in cross-functional forums, the Product Steering Committee, and client-facing conversations where appropriate.
Skill and Competencies
What you'll need to bring
- Proven experience in a product management role in mortgages - you know what good PM practice looks like and you practise it.
- Commercial instinct – you think about value, not just features. You can articulate why something matters to the business, not just what it does.
- Strong prioritisation skills – you make hard calls, explain your reasoning, and don't let the backlog run you.
- Structured problem-solving – you define problems before jumping to solutions, and you use data and evidence to support your thinking.
- Collaborative by default, direct when needed – you work well with engineering, design, and commercial teams without losing your point of view.
- Proficiency with product management tooling – Jira is non-negotiable for Phoebus operationally right now. Confluence is expected, and you're comfortable working in a maturing agile environment.
What will set you apart?
- Experience in financial services, lending, or mortgage servicing. You don't need to be a technical expert, but you need to be able to learn the domain quickly and credibly.
- Familiarity with regulated environments. You understand the difference between building for one and building for many.
- Comfort with ambiguity. This is a domain and a function that is still maturing. You will need to create structure where it doesn't yet exist.
