Role Overview
Role: Technical Product Owner
Salary: £70,000-£90,000 p/a (+ discretionary 7.5% annual bonus)
Location: Hybrid – London 2 days per week
The Opportunity
Our client, an innovative medical technology business operating within the global life sciences sector, is looking for an experienced Technical Product Owner to join its growing technology team.
The successful candidate will sit at the intersection of Product, Business and Engineering, taking ownership of prioritisation while working closely with Developers, Testers and senior stakeholders to turn complex business requirements into clear, deliverable solutions.
This isn't a traditional Product Owner role focused purely on backlog management. You'll need to be technically fluent, comfortable discussing APIs, data models and system behavior with Developers, and confident making value-based decisions around features, technical improvements and defects.
You'll also have the opportunity to shape how the Product function develops as the team grows, with an expectation to eventually take responsibility for mentoring and line managing a Business Analyst.
Key Responsibilities
Product Ownership & Prioritisation
- Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring it remains well-groomed, estimated and ready for sprint planning
- Prioritise features, technical improvements and defects based on business value
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to understand priorities and make clear value-based trade-off decisions
- Review and accept completed work against agreed acceptance criteria and the Definition of Done
Requirements & Technical Analysis
- Elicit, analyse and challenge business requirements, translating them into clear user stories and acceptance criteria
- Work closely with Developers and Testers throughout delivery
- Contribute to technical discussions around APIs, data models, integrations and system behaviour
- Use SQL to interrogate data, validate assumptions and support impact analysis
- Produce UML diagrams, process flows and data mapping artefacts to communicate solution design

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
