Product Owner - Insurance & Underwriting

Location: Leeds
Salary: £65,000 - £68,000 + benefits
Type: Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Product Owner to join a growing product function within a leading insurance organisation. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the product ownership capability while driving significant business change across the underwriting function.

You'll work at the heart of the business, partnering closely with underwriting teams, product management, technology teams and senior stakeholders to define priorities, influence strategy and deliver meaningful outcomes.

The Role

As Product Owner, you'll be responsible for managing stakeholder demand, prioritising initiatives, and helping to shape and deliver the product roadmap. You'll collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure the right work is prioritised and delivered effectively.

You'll also have the opportunity to influence how product ownership is structured and operated across the business, contributing to the development of a growing product-led organisation. The successful candidate will bring maturity, credibility and strong stakeholder management skills, helping to coach and support less experienced members of the team where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and prioritise product initiatives within the underwriting domain.
  • Manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across the business.
  • Help define and manage the 2027 product roadmap.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and technology teams to deliver business value.
  • Balance competing priorities and dependencies across multiple teams.
  • Champion product ownership best practice across the wider function.
  • Support and mentor colleagues through coaching and knowledge sharing.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven Product Owner experience (ideally 2+ years).
  • Strong insurance industry experience is essential.
  • Underwriting experience or exposure would be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working in Agile environments using Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Ability to demonstrate personal impact and ownership of successful product deliveries.
  • A confident, collaborative approach with the ability to influence and challenge constructively.
