Purpose of the Role:
As a Product Owner - AI Solutions, you will own the product side of our AI platform engagements with biopharma clients. These are platforms that ingest and harmonize internal and external data sources to surface actionable insights and generate recommendations for Medical Affairs, Competitive Intelligence, and commercial teams — delivered inside regulated, multi-region client environments.
You will sit between the client's business stakeholders, their IT, Data, and Compliance functions, our engineering team, and Atacana senior management. You will turn an ambiguous client objective into a prioritized backlog, defend the scope our clients contracted for, and make sure what ships clears acceptance criteria and gets used. This is a client-facing role working in a scrum delivery model.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the Client Relationship: Serve as the primary point of contact across cross-functional teams (e.g. Brand Teams, Medical Affairs, IT, Data, Compliance/PV, Security, and others). Run discovery — stakeholder interviews, surveys, use-case triage and prioritization workshops, persona and workflow definition — and translate the output into documented requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Own the Backlog and Drive the Scrum Team: Prioritize continuously against value, dependency, and delivery risk. Lead refinement, planning, and review alongside the Scrum Master and engineering leads, own the definition of done, and accept or reject work against it.
- Define What the AI Actually Does: Shape and prioritize ingestion and harmonization of internal and external sources, retrieval behavior, summarization and classification, insight generation with evidence linking, recommendation logic, and conversational query. Own evaluation strategy and product KPIs with engineering, and drive root-cause analysis when quality targets are missed.
- Stay Ahead of a Fast-Moving Field and Bring Options to the Team: This technology changes month to month. You are expected to actively learn — read, test, prototype, talk to vendors — and to bring credible alternatives into the room. You will brainstorm approaches with engineering rather than hand them a specification: framing the client problem, weighing techniques and trade-offs, and helping the team choose the approach that will actually hold up in a regulated environment.
- Protect Scope, Dependencies, and Milestones: Hold the scope baseline and identify when a request is a change order rather than a refinement, with a clear read on timeline and cost impact. Track client-side dependencies (environment access, data samples, SME availability, licenses, approvals) and flag slippage before it reaches the critical path. Prepare milestone acceptance packages and support invoicing readiness.
- Build Compliance in from the Start: Work with client Compliance and Pharmacovigilance on compliant workflows, including adverse event detection, flagging, and routing to safety systems. Ensure PHI/PII handling, RBAC, audit trail, and data protection requirements (GDPR, APPI, PIPL, AI regulations) are captured as requirements rather than discovered late — across regions where those expectations differ (US, EU, Asia).
- Drive Adoption and Act as a Thought Partner: Own UAT, restricted-access rollout, user onboarding, and feedback loops; adoption is your outcome, not the client's problem. Present progress, trade-offs, and risks to client leadership and Atacana senior management, escalate rather than absorb, help clients solve problems as they arise, and help uncover additional engagement opportunities.

Travel Required:
Site visits, trade shows, and team offsite meetings.
Note: This is not a Scrum Master or delivery-coordination-only role. You are accountable for what the product does, not only for how the team runs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience in pharma, biotech, or life sciences, preferably in insights function or field roles.
- Hands-on exposure to GenAI product patterns: RAG, vector stores, prompt design, evaluation frameworks, and guardrails.
- Experience delivering in regulated environments: architecture review boards, security review cycles, validation expectations.
- Familiarity with the data sources these platforms consume — PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, clinical trial registries, regulatory websites (FDA, EMA, PMDA), Citeline, AlphaSense, and similar.
- Working knowledge of AI tools and technologies.
- Demonstrable habit of self-directed learning in a fast-moving technical field: you can point to what you have taught yourself in the last year and how it changed a decision you made.
- Demonstrated client-facing experience — you have run workshops, handled difficult stakeholder conversations, and presented to senior leadership.
- Experience delivering under fixed-scope, milestone-based commercial arrangements, where scope, timeline, and budget are contractual rather than aspirational.
- Strong written communication — you can produce a requirements document, a decision record, or a status readout that a client executive will actually read.
- Based in the EU and able to adapt schedule to work with clients in the US, APAC, and ensure timely client communication and support.

Desired Skills:
- 5+ years in product ownership, product management, or business analysis on software delivery, with at least 2 years as a Product Owner in a scrum team.
- Track record shipping data or AI/ML products, with enough technical fluency to hold a credible conversation about data pipelines, APIs, cloud architecture, and LLM behavior — and to challenge an engineering proposal rather than only receive it.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to go the extra mile and to work under pressure with a positive attitude.
- Leadership and Collaboration – someone who works well within a team structure and can provide guidance to a scrum team on client requirements.
- Intellectual curiosity and a genuine appetite for learning – you enjoy the fact that the ground keeps moving, and you would rather understand how something works than take a summary of it on trust.
- Flexibility and desire to contribute as an individual, as a team player, as a project manager, and leader, depending on the task at hand.
- Excellent communicator and negotiator: As this is a client-facing role, be comfortable communicating and presenting to diverse audiences who have various levels of knowledge, and possess the ability to adjust communication styles to different clients/audiences.
- Comfort making decisions with incomplete information, and the willingness to revisit them without ego when new information arrives.
