Product Owner – Rating Engines & Portfolio Analytics

This is not a conventional product role—and it is not a roadmap of screens and forms. Our Digital MGA client is targeting a doubling of the business over the next three years, supported by an ambitious AI portfolio being built in-house. We are now looking for a Product Owner to take responsibility for two of their most data-intensive product areas: the rating engines that price risk and the portfolio management tools that give underwriting leadership a real-time view of exposure, concentration, and performance across the book. You will need to be as comfortable discussing a pricing factor, model output, or data schema as you are prioritizing a backlog or leading a sprint review. This is an exciting opportunity for future career development.

The Opportunity

You will own the roadmap and backlog for:

  • The shared rating and pricing engine, including product-specific rating logic, calibration, governance, and version control
  • Portfolio management tooling covering exposure aggregation, concentration risk, loss-ratio trends, and other insights used to manage the overall book
  • Data pipelines and analytics that turn underwriting questions into reliable, decision-ready information

This role sits at the intersection of underwriting, actuarial, data science, and engineering. You will not be expected to build calibration curves or models yourself—but you will need to understand their outputs, ask informed questions, and explain the implications of a pricing change to underwriting stakeholders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and shape the product roadmap and backlog for rating engines and portfolio analytics
  • Evaluate new ideas before committing development resources
  • Write requirements and acceptance criteria that work for data pipelines, models, and pricing logic—not simply user interfaces
  • Translate underwriting leadership’s information needs into clear data and product requirements
  • Review analytical outputs before they are released
  • Work closely with underwriting, actuarial, data science, and engineering to understand what is driving model or pricing changes
  • Determine when a result requires formal data science or actuarial validation
  • Sequence releases across regions and lines of business, progressing through to full automation
  • Use measured accuracy, error rates, and live evidence to guide rollout decisions
  • Identify changes that can be automated safely and which require greater control
  • Use AI tools directly within your own work—for example, exploring data, querying rating-engine outputs, accelerating requirements gathering, or drafting technical requirements
  • Keep stakeholders and leadership informed with clear, credible updates about risks and uncertainty as well as progress

About You

  • Strong Product Owner or Product Manager experience for 3+ years following your Graduate level education (min 2:1), ideally involving a data-intensive, analytical, or model-backed product
  • Insurer or Digital MGA background ideal - data-focused Product role within Specialty or Commercial
  • We would be particularly interested in candidates with experience of pricing engines, risk-scoring platforms, portfolio analytics, or similarly complex systems within Insurance
  • The confidence to read model outputs and ask sharp, informed questions, without necessarily being a data scientist yourself
  • Strong agile delivery knowledge, combined with the judgement to adapt processes as needed
  • A clear instinct for MVP scoping: what needs to ship now, what can wait, and what requires further evidence
  • Practical, hands-on fluency with AI tools as part of your own product workflow—not simply experience discussing AI on a roadmap
  • Excellent stakeholder-management skills and the ability to communicate appropriately with underwriters, actuaries, data scientists, engineers, and senior leadership
  • Keen to work remotely from the UK, and living within easy access of London for occasional team collaboration
