I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A great Product Owner typically brings a blend of customer focus, strategic thinking, and product mindset. Some of the things I look for are:
- Customer-obsessed mindset – constantly seeking to understand customer needs, pain points, and behaviours rather than relying on assumptions and requirements. Has strong evidence of being able to lead great discovery and design sprints.
- Outcome-focused thinking – prioritising measurable customer and business outcomes over feature delivery for its own sake.
- Strong stakeholder management – able to align diverse stakeholders around a clear vision and make informed trade-off decisions.
- Data-informed decision making – comfortable using insight, evidence, and experimentation to shape priorities and validate ideas.
- Ownership and adaptability – takes accountability for outcomes, embraces ambiguity, and continuously learns and iterates.
Banking industry experience and understanding of the Lending product will be a value added.
