Product Quality Engineer

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Product Quality Engineer based at Nikon X-Tek in Tring, Hertfordshire UK.
What is your role?
The position is responsible for the Supplier Quality Engineering activities on the Nikon X-Tek Tring site but with the opportunity of a broader scope to support customer and internal quality activities as well. The purpose is to complete product quality assurance activities to prevent nonconformities and to co-ordinate the containment, corrective and preventive actions for nonconformities in order to support the achievement of the business quality objectives.
This role would suit a Quality Engineer or Senior Quality Engineer with several years’ experience in the field.
Key areas of responsibility
- To be the lead point of contact Quality Engineer for supplier quality.
- Ensuring correct recording of non-conforming product.
- To analyse the quality data to identify risks and opportunities for improvement, propose solutions and drive changes.
- To be a ‘voice of the customer’ for quality into the business.
- To resolve nonconformities and ensure prevention of repeat cases using a disciplined problem-solving approach.
- Coordination of actions and investigations to resolve supplier product quality incidents to resolution including visits to suppliers as required. Reporting progress to the team and to management.
- Supplier Quality. Supplier Quality management, audit and development to assure quality of supplied product.
- Quality planning of inspection activities for check and release of product on site and at incoming goods for current and new or modified product and processes.
- Quality planning input to the Product Development, Engineering Change and Manufacturing change processes to assure right first-time quality.
- To be an Internal quality auditor and to support continuous improvement of the Quality system.
- Maintenance of quality workmanship standards and counter-checking conformance to drawings and specifications. Input to the setting of quality standards from knowledge of measurement, statistical variation and potential or actual nonconformities.
- To support the coaching, mentoring and training in quality methods and tools such as problem solving, defect prevention, fool proofing, measurement, statistical variation. 8D, APQP, SPC, Poka Yoke.
- Quality representative for Product Quality at review meetings including daily production meetings, supplier reviews.
- Management of measurement methods and equipment.

Ancillary Responsibilities
- To be Quality team member on other business improvement programs or initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree / HNC / HND equivalent in an Engineering discipline.
- 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably Electro-mechanical.
- Experience / Qualification in Quality methods including measurement, problem solving, SPC, Advanced Quality Planning (identification of key characteristics, inspection planning, quality approvals).
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- Internal and supplier auditing experience.
- Supplier facing experience.

- Customer facing experience.
- Advanced SPC.
- 8D Problem solving experience / qualification.
- Knowledge of ISO9001 Quality Management System standards.
