About The Role

Lead Product Quality and Quality Engineering (QE) across the complete product lifecycle, from supplier and new product introduction through serial manufacture, delivery and customer experience. This is specifically a product-focused role: preventing defects, improving product and process capability, resolving customer and supplier Quality issues, eliminating recurrence and reducing Cost of Poor Quality. Inspection and First Article inspection Report (FAIR) shall interface with the Product Quality Manager operationally but report to the Quality Manager. All employees are expected to strive to meet the Company values of Porvair.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Drive Quality performance improvement across the product lifecycle from supplier and NPI through manufacture, delivery and customer experience
  • Analyse and report performance by customer, product family, part number, process and defect mode to identify and remove dominant product risks
  • Collaborate with Quality Manager and wider business to reduce Cost of Poor Quality though targeted reduction of inputs and strong education of wider team
  • Drive QE excellence and defect prevention through RCCA, FMEA/control plans, MSA/SPC, process capability and error proofing as a minimum
  • Own operational customer Quality including complaints, escapes, returns, containment, 8D/RCCA, customer metrics and execution of corrective action commitment
  • Lead customer Product quality responses, coordinating and engaging customer representatives as appropriate
  • Manage supplier Product Quality, including risk classification, surveillance, SCAR, RCCA effectiveness and supplier development. Collaborate with Procurement function to support supplier assessment/performance
  • Monitor and improve operational nonconformance performance including NCR ageing, containment, MRB Quality representation, recurrence analysis and action effectiveness
  • Embed QE in NPI/APQP, product/process change, supplier readiness, FAIR readiness and production readiness
  • Advocate the quality principle: Production owns manufacture of conforming product Engineering retains responsibility for design and authorised technical disposition
  • Coordinate operational priorities with Inspection and FAIR in collaboration with Quality Manager
  • Escalate significant product conformity, customer, supplier, regulatory or safety risks to the Quality Manager, recommending hold/stoppage as appropriate
  • Delegate for Quality Manager as appropriate
  • Support company initiatives to reinforce company values and improve employee capability
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee, training and business information
  • Perform other tasks as required
  • Ensure safe working practices and conditions exist within the QE operating environment
  • Prioritise resources to ensure that business goals are met
  • Support setting of departmental objectives and KPI, review and assess ongoing performance
  • Active participation and promotion of daily Tiered Accountability for escalation and support
  • Enable and leverage continuous improvement initiatives with support functions to drive performance gains
  • Ensure trained resource is available to meet workload and regularly assess workforce competencies
  • Provide day-to-day management of the team, including attendance and performance oversight
  • Manage team development through clear training plans and objectives
  • Performance manage team

Essential

What We’re Looking For

  • Engineering or Quality qualification at HNC/HND level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Trained, working knowledge of AS9100
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Good general education, including strong written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • Degree in Engineering or Quality
  • AS9100 Internal/Lead Auditor
  • Part 21G, AS9102 FAIR and AS9145 APQP experience

Experience Required

  • 4-6 years’ Quality Engineering experience in aerospace or similar regulated manufacturing environment
  • 2-3 years’ Leadership of QE and demonstrable product Quality improvement
  • Relevant experience leading quality team in a high performing regulated environment
  • Strong product conformity, nonconformance and material review board (MRB) management
  • Proficient engineering drawing interpretation capability
  • Product Quality Engineering including RCCA, PFMEA, control plans, MSA, SPC and process capability
  • Data analysis by customer, product family, part number, process and defect mode
  • Cross-functional leadership with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, Inspection and FAIR
  • Experience coordinating, delivering or supporting quality subject matter training
  • Proficient and effective coach/trainer, demonstrable support of others in the pursuit of Quality excellence
  • MS Office – 365, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
