Job title: Product Safety Engineer (Product / System Safety)
Role type: Permanent (on-site / hybrid - min. 2/3 days per week on-site; some project phases may require up to 5 days on-site)
Locations: Surrey / Weymouth
Salary: Up to £80,000 DOE
Clearance: SC cleared or eligible (DV desirable)
Eligibility: Sole UK National
iO are partnered with a specialist engineering business delivering safety-critical products and systems into highly regulated environments. Now hiring a Product Safety Engineer to act as the focal point for Product & System Safety Assurance, supporting bids and live programmes from early design through to certification / acceptance.
Role responsibilities:
- Establish and deliver Safety Management Systems and Safety Plans
- Own delivery of Product / System Safety activities across multiple programmes
- Lead hazard identification activity (workshops as required) and maintain hazard logs
- Conduct safety analysis and risk evaluation (identification, estimation, reduction / ALARP)
- Produce and contribute to safety cases and supporting certification / assurance artefacts
- Create clear technical reports and present safety progress to internal/external stakeholders
- Provide safety input to bids/proposals (scope, work packages, effort and schedule)

What we're looking for:
- Proven background delivering Product Safety Engineering / System Safety on complex systems (defence or similarly regulated domains preferred)
- Experience leading safety analysis, risk evaluation, and safety case development
- Strong experience owning hazard logs and running hazard identification / analysis activity
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and regulatory expectations (e.g. Def Stan 00-056, IEC 61508, defence safety regulation)
- Working knowledge of CE / UKCA compliance expectations
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management (engineering teams, programme leadership, customers/suppliers)
