Summary of position
TSL is looking for a Product Specialist to continue supporting our growing private label & branded FMCG business, trusted by the biggest names in the UK and beyond, including Boots, Tesco, Superdrug, and the NHS to supply self-care and active living solutions.
The Product Specialist will play a key role within the technical team providing crucial support to the technical functions of the business. You will work closely alongside the technical team, whilst reporting directly into the Technical Director, to develop and maintain technical information, develop subject-matter expertise on key product and process areas such as absorbent hygiene products, medical first aid products, and sterilisation, lead product improvement initiatives, provide guidance during product and project development, and liaise with suppliers and customers to ensure product compliance.

Primary responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical information as a product expert for new and existing medical devices, absorbent hygiene products, general products, and cosmetics in alignment with business goals.
- Provide technical support to the business, suppliers, and customers on all matters relating to the safety, legality, and quality of the products purchased and sold.
- Manage the provision of technical information (including creation of technical documentation) both internally and externally.
- Manage chain of custody (FSC, PEFC, GOTS).
- A clear understanding of the legal requirements for labelling and testing within the required product/technology areas.
- Complete relevant quotation documentation to ensure new products are costed and developed in line with customer technical requirements to ensure specifications are correct and up-to-date to aid procurement costing, etc.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure technical compliance throughout the product lifecycle:
- Ensuring customer and internal specifications are prepared on time, that they are up-to-date and active to help ensure products are launched on time in full.
- Support or, where appropriate, lead product improvement, quality improvement, or value improvement projects and delivery to market on time.
- Proactively support product development by advising on emerging trends, innovations, and requirements with product quality.
- Develop and maintain customer technical relationships to ensure that we are the trusted go-to suppliers for our product ranges:
- Schedule reviews with customers to ensure that we are meeting their expectations on a frequent basis, including supporting the sales team with customers including category reviews.
- Maintain documentation and share product knowledge to ensure transparency and product understanding.
- Manage supplier relationships in the development of new products/change of materials, working closely with other functions such as Procurement & Project management.
- Support the implementation of new formats of existing products/bespoke SKU’s for customers' range changes/NPD.
- To support the Technical Director by driving product improvement, quality improvement, or value improvement projects and delivery to market on time.
- Support and assist the Technical Director in managing any technical issues:
- Manages and resolves technical issues in a timely manner with clear solutions and communication to all relevant stakeholders.
- Ensures customer complaint data is analysed and any trends are identified, and appropriate action plans are implemented.
- Support Technical Director with ad-hoc projects and duties as required.

Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience of working in absorbent hygiene products or related field.
- Knowledge of TSL products, product composition, and use of the products.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented, pragmatic individual who is collaborative and flexible.
- Good communication skills, written and verbal communication, especially across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred
- UK/EU experience in Medical Devices/General Products/Cosmetics.
- Experience of working in regulated environments.
- Experience working with external industry trade associations.
