Remote - UK

Purpose

The Product Specialist is responsible for translating product strategy into high-quality, deliverable outcomes through effective backlog management and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Combining strong product delivery capability with deep industry expertise, this role ensures that solutions are both technically robust and aligned to real-world customer needs. The Product Specialist plays a critical role in enabling efficient delivery while acting as a subject matter expert within their domain.

Key Responsibilities

Backlog Ownership & Refinement

  • Own, manage, and continuously refine the product backlog to ensure it is clear, prioritised, and actionable
  • Translate product strategy and discovery insights into well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Ensure backlog items meet Definition of Ready (DoR) and align with delivery goals

Delivery Planning & Execution

  • Lead backlog refinement and sprint planning, ensuring clarity of priorities and scope
  • Support the team in delivering high-quality increments aligned to defined outcomes
  • Contribute to release planning and ensure readiness for deployment

Team Enablement & Collaboration

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the development team for requirements clarification
  • Work closely with Engineering, QA, and Design to ensure smooth and efficient delivery
  • Remove ambiguity and unblock teams to maintain delivery momentum

Quality & Acceptance

  • Validate delivered work against acceptance criteria and Definition of Done (DoD)
  • Ensure quality standards are met in collaboration with QA and stakeholders
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and release sign-off processes

Stakeholder & Feedback Management

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback
  • Ensure stakeholder needs are reflected in backlog prioritisation
  • Communicate delivery progress, risks, and changes effectively

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor product performance and delivery metrics to identify improvement opportunities
  • Feed insights into backlog prioritisation and future iterations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of agile processes and team effectiveness

Domain & Industry Expertise

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) within your product domain, maintaining deep knowledge of industry practices, customer workflows, and trends
  • Apply industry expertise to shape requirements, challenge assumptions, and improve solution design
  • Ensure delivered features reflect real-world customer use and industry best practice
  • Partner with customers and stakeholders as a trusted advisor for domain-specific insight
  • Carry out specialist domain specific tasks relevant to your product

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Product Delivery & Agile Expertise

  • Experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role in an agile environment
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and product development practices
  • Ability to translate product strategy into clear, actionable user stories and deliverables
  • Experience managing and prioritising a product backlog

Industry & Domain Expertise

  • Experience working closely with customers or within the industry
  • Ability to apply domain expertise to shape requirements and improve solutions
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory, commercial, or operational considerations (where applicable)
  • Recognised as a trusted source of domain knowledge by stakeholders

Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to use data and feedback to inform decisions and improvements

Collaboration & Communication

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear requirements
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Confidence engaging with stakeholders and customers

Quality & Delivery Focus

  • Experience working closely with engineering and QA to ensure high-quality delivery
  • Strong understanding of DoR and DoD
  • Ability to balance delivery pace with quality

Tools & Technical Familiarity

  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence or similar
  • Comfortable working with technical teams and understanding dependencies and constraints
