Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design die cast dies: runner, cooling, vacuum systems, etc. to ensure best part quality and optimize yield.
- Design die seals for the best vacuum performance and leak prevention.
- Calculate and design cooling system to ensure best part quality and optimal cycle time.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to evaluate product and tooling design feasibility.
- Run casting simulations and provide feedback on simulation results to casting divisions.
- Participate and provide inputs for casting simulation reviews for casting divisions.
- Work closely with casting divisions for simulation to actual die casting trial correlation.
- Provide design improvements for casting divisions include - vacuum, seals, hydraulic actuated cores/slides, squeeze cores, jet-cooled cores, etc.
- Implement tooling standards and best practices across all casting divisions.
- Implement CI/CR projects for the casting divisions to improve operational performance.
- Improve tooling performance for better cycle time and less tooling down time.
- Lead tooling FMEA with divisional CFT team to capture global lessons learned.
- Provide technical support to optimize tooling performance by utilizing coatings and materials to improve die life and reduce/eliminate soldering for casting divisions.
- Develop and maintain global die standards to:
- Improve production performance (net casting rate)
- Optimize casting yield
- Minimize tooling costs / good casting
- Analyze die IR images and improve die cooling to improve thermal balance of DC die.
- Perform dimensional analysis, implement countermeasures to improve dimensional capability. Complete understanding of casting tolerances and GD&T.
- Provide casting process design and troubleshooting support for the casting divisions.
- Provide VA/VE for casting and trim tool support to divisions.
- Provide trim tool design support to casting divisions to meet product quality requirements.
- Perform other duties as required.

Position Requirements

- Previous experience in aluminum casting experience including high pressure die casting.
- Ability to determine manufacturing feasibility of die cast products and assemblies from their piece part drawings.
- Strong hands-on, day-to-day operational and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Able to use computer and software as required.
- Must be able to understand written instructions.
