About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Production Area Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of assigned production areas or shifts. You will lead Supervisors and Factory Operatives on the shop floor, ensuring production plans are executed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. This role focuses on hands-on leadership, real-time resource management, and maintaining compliance, escalating issues and improvement opportunities where appropriate. As the Production Area Manager, you will provide leadership, direction, and oversight to Production Supervisors and holds accountability for operational performance at area or shift level.

About your responsibilities

Production

  • Manage day-to-day manufacturing activities within assigned production areas or shifts
  • Execute production plans in line with schedules and customer requirements
  • Allocate labour and resources at shift level to achieve output targets
  • Monitor daily performance KPIs and take immediate corrective action where required
  • Ensure production documentation and work instructions are followed and kept up to date
  • Provide timely and accurate operational information to support planning activities

People Management

  • Provide visible, inclusive leadership on the shop floor
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and oversight to Production Supervisors to ensure consistent people management standards are applied across the area or shift
  • Set clear expectations for Supervisors and Factory Operatives
  • Manage day-to-day performance, attendance, and conduct in line with company policies
  • Complete return-to-work, welfare, and performance discussions as required
  • Maintain and execute the skills matrix to ensure adequate competence and coverage
  • Allocate holidays and overtime at area or shift level in line with agreed guidelines

Health & Safety

  • Lead day-to-day health and safety compliance within the production area
  • Ensure risk assessments, SSOW, and PPE requirements are followed
  • Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership and intervention
  • Report accidents and near misses and support investigations as required
  • Implement agreed corrective actions and escalate safety concerns promptly
  • Support internal and external audits as required

Quality

  • Ensure products are manufactured in line with approved quality standards
  • Act as a first point of control for quality issues arising during production
  • Liaise with Quality Inspectors to contain issues and minimise impact
  • Support root cause investigations and implement agreed corrective actions
  • Drive reductions in rework, scrap, and downtime within the assigned area

Continuous Improvement

  • Support and implement continuous improvement activities at area or shift level
  • Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards on the shop floor
  • Identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities and escalate proposals
  • Participate in and coordinate local improvement activities as directed, ensuring actions are implemented consistently across the area or shift
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties that may be requested from time to time.

What you bring

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or team-leading role within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working to production plans and operational KPIs
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing principles such as 5S, waste reduction, and CI
  • Confident user of MS Office and ERP or production systems
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Demonstrates a proactive, results-focused approach with strong organisational skills and the ability to lead teams effectively on the shop floor
  • Works collaboratively with others and takes a practical, solutions-focused approach to meeting daily operational targets and production requirements
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with team members and key support functions, providing effective instructions, updates, and feedback
  • Applies sound problem-solving and decision-making skills to resolve day-to-day operational issues and escalate concerns appropriately
